I have a gr gr grandfather by the name of Caspar Bickel. He must have come to the Illinois or Missouri area back in the 1840s. He married my grandmother Mary Foch/Fox somewhere in the 1850's. My great grandmother, their daughter was born in 1858 and had two older sisters. I have a blanket my gr. gr. grandmother wove herself, which is dated 1849. Caspar was in the Civil War on the Confederate side. He is said to have drowned at Shiloh. I read somewhere there was a horrible storm during a battle and some of those who were badly injured drowned at Shiloh. I don't know his story, just history. He died there and I don't know when. My mother said they had heard of Saxe Coburn, Germany, in relation to him. He may have had a brother, but I really don't know for sure. At one point when my gr. grandmother was young, I heard her mother and her sisters lived in Quincy, Illinois. Does any of this come together with info you have?
