I would like to find information about my g-g-grandfather Louis Baum, who was born in 1868 in Germany and emmigrated to New York in 1885. Louis was married to Bertha Lippman (born 1869,emmigrated 1889). They had 2 children, Irving and Jeanette.

I believe, but am not certain, that Louis was the son of Joseph Baum and Amalia Mayer. I'm not sure if they ever came to America.

I am looking for information on the family of Heinrich Mattfeld in Achim bei Bremen. He is my great-grandfather. My grandfather, Friedrich Mattfeld came to the U.S. in 1922 or 1923 and landed at Ellis Island. He ended up in Puyallup, Washington and is buried in the U.S. Veterans' Cemetery in Portland, OR.

I am looking for any information I can find about the Mattfeld family in Germany. I believe there might have been a sister named Margaret Mattfeld. I do not know my great-grandmother's name, but, her maiden name could have been Bachmann.

Presumably your ancestor was not Jewish but Huguenot. So you may have French roots.
If he really was from Prussia then it may be that his family left France in the late 1600s. Prussia was one of the states in Europe that allowed and even wanted these French protestants to immigrate.

Try this link

http://www.hugenotten.de/htm_ger/index_ger.html

This is the Huguenot society in Germany. They keep records of Huguenot immigrants to Germany. Maybe a family Lepine immigrated to Prussia and later on your ancestor went to England.
So there was a family Lepine in Prussia you can trace perhaps your ancestor back to them.
What is more there seem to be some families by the name of Lepine in Germany.
http://www.verwandt.de/karten/absolut/lepine.html
I suspect that the name of your ancestors was originally spelled Grübnau.

You did not mention anything about the time they emigrated....
Could Elbany be Elbing - a town in Western Prussia (today Poland)...?? Also Grübnau seems to have been a common name in Western Prussia...
And although I am very sure that the curious name of the town Zeyos or Zeyeris is misspelled or misinterpreted from handwriting... there were a lot of villages or towns with - in a way - curious sounding names in that area...

You could request the birth certificate of your relative in Marktleugast (local administration)...

Sent you the link in my other post...

The birth certificate will give you more information on parents... If they were born before 1875 you could check local church registers... If they were born 1875 and after the registration office in Marktleugast can probably help you... (if these people were born in that town).....

As you probably know Koppelmeyer is a name still relatively common in Germany.
The "densest" population of Koppelmeyers today is in the region of Minden-Lübbecke.
I found that some books exist containing the names of emigrants from that area....
Perhaps you can somehow check these books for your Koppelmeyers....

Book 1:

Band 38/39 (1980–1981) 2. Auflage. 733 Seiten, 1 Karte als Beilage, kartoniert, 36,– €, ISBN 3-402-05053-6.
Friedrich Müller: Westfälische Auswanderer im 19. Jahrhundert. Auswanderung aus dem Regierungsbezirk Minden. 1. Teil: 1816–1900.

Book 2

Band 47/48 (1989–1990)762 Seiten, kartoniert, 58,– €, ISBN 3-402-05096-X.
Friedrich Müller Westfälische Auswanderer im 19. Jahrhundert. Auswanderung aus dem Regierungsbezirk Minden II. Teil: Heimliche Auswanderung 1814–1900.

I made a quick research in the internet and found this:

The name of the town where this person was born is correctly spelled Tschebiatkow - situated in Eastern Pomerania. Later (after 1929) it was called Radenfelde.

Interesting is this link I found where the inhabitants of Radenfelde/Tschebiatkow between 1920 and 1945 are listed.

http://www.buetow-pommern.info/materialien/doerfer/tschebiat...

You will find a woman called Lilli Burzlaff still living there in 1944. But according to this list she lived in 1947 in
Gr.-Rosenburg/Saale, Gartenstraße 18.

So at the end of World War II she obviously emigrated to the west...

Neufeld is most likely also not the Neufeld you found (which is probably situated in Schleswig-Holstein...) but there is another Neufeld, Kreis Rummelsburg, also in East Pomerania.

This region - East Pomerania - today belongs to Poland.

Perhaps the attached link can provide you with more help or information or even the possibility to find relatives...

http://hinterpommern.de/

Unfortunately it is in German....
Since I posted this query, I have found some information on my ancestors from a LDS church film.
I have found that my family lived in the village of Altenaffeln, Westphalia and the chruch they went to was St.Lambertus cathlice church in Affeln.
Joannes Belecken was born in 1806 and married Carolina Linnemann on aug 24, 1833. They had six children.
I would like to now find the parents of Joannes and some of his sibblings.
Any information on this would be great.
Thanks!

I am researching the Weetenkamp family of Maryland. John H. Weetenkamp arrived in 1886. I have photos of his sisters (Bertha and Johanna) taken by a photographer in Bremerhaven Germany. It is possible the family came from Oldenburg.
His sister Johanna's married name was Kaiser and she lived in Berlin during 1921.
The family was Catholic, Jesuit educated. It is believed his brother or other relative visited Baltimore on the uBoot Deutchland in 1916. Unfortunately, the crew manifest is unavailable. I also know he traveled back and forth to Germany in the late 1890's and early 1900's. His first wife was Frances Duerbeck died in child birth (Married and died in 1893)and second wife was Adelle Hatfield (Married 1895) of Maryland. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

You say that you have Lou Gehrigs father's death - I am very interested in finding out the cause of death/medical conditions listed on the cert.

I don't think we have the same family. Names are close but my Wilhelm Fischer was married to a Louise Clausen both born in Germany. Julius Fischer was born in 1854 Germany. I don't have a Freddy Julius Fischer. There is an Edward Julius Fischer that would be the grandson of Wilhelm but he was born in 1884 in Wisconsin.
If there is any information we can compare that might connect the family somewhere, let me know and I would be glad to share. Thanks!
