I am looking for any information on the family names Steinmann and Nolte. They emigrated to America via the Port of Baltimore aboard the ship Branschweig in 1881 or 1882.

Ancestors: Surname Cornelius

I am looking for information on my grandfather's family. He came from a family of 7 sons, their parents were Dirk and Johanna Cornelius.

My great grandmother came from Pennsylvania and her surname was Wentz. Don't know what part of state she lived in.

My grandfather married Minnie Julia Dora Stummie. We have nothing on the Stummie family. Grandma was born in Kansas

My great-grandfather Henry Steinmann immigrated to the US in 1880 through Baltimore. I don't know which ship he arrived on. He went immediately to Cincinnati, where the family has been for several generations. I'll be happy to share information with you if you're interested in this Steinmann branch

Saw your message on the internet. This is my first time doing this. We are looking for more information on John Henry Steinemann who came from Germany and settled in Ohio. We have records from a cousin of my husband's. Will bring info into work so I can send you some. Maybe a link? We have records going back to Germany.

My great-grandfather on my father's side was named John Henry Steinforth. So far, I've seen documents with his name spelled "Steinforth", "Steinfort", and "Steinford", so I thought I'd inquire about this posting. I figure maybe Steinmann enterred the scenerio somewhere along the line. Anyway, my John Henry was also from Germany and I believe came through Baltimore on "The Marianne". I found a ships manifest in which his name was spelled "Steinfurth". I am not positive that this ships manifest is directly connected, but clues lead in that direction. My John Henry was a woodcarver by trade, but settled in Covington. Any connection or variations in the spelling of your name over the years? I know this is a longshot, but what the heck!

Also, one thing I forgot to mention, on the ships manifest, it states that the folks on board "The Marianne" were headed to "Cincinnaty". I know this is not how to spell Cincinnati, seeing as how I lived the first 32 years of my life in that city, but this is how it was spelled on the manifest. The folks on board were Carl, Adelheid, Anna, Johann, Maria, Heinerich, Frienchen, and Anna. I'm thinking that MAYBE, JUST MAYBE my John Henry was either Heinrich, who was six at the time, or Johann (could be a spelling for John???), who was 9 at the time. Let me know about the spelling of your name over the years, my curiousity has gotten the best of me. Ha, Ha

It's interesting that your ancestor ended up in the same area as mine, but I don't believe their is any connection. As far as I know, my surname has always been spelled Steinmann. My ancestor Henry was born in Levern, Westphalia, where the name on his baptismal record was spelled that way, as was his father's name.

I was curious of the date John Henry Steinforth sailed to Baltimore. I am trying to identify my ancestors' home in Germany. My great-great-grandfather's name was Henry (not sure if this was his German given name) Steinfort. His parents and his 2 brothers settled near Batesville, Indiana, in 1847. It would be interesting to note if our family's are related in any way (Batesville is just west of Cincinatti on I-74) or if we are from the same village in Germany. Do you know if "Steinforth", "Steinfort" and "Steinfurt" are of the same origin; either due to spelling errors in the ship records or for some other unapparent reason. In my family, I have been told of Henry Steinfort's 12 children only my great-grandfather kept spelling our name Steinfort, the others spelled it Steinford. It seems it was often spelled that way by others and so they changed it. Look forward to hearing from you.--John
