John
Frederic Vorpahl, born September 1833 in Germany, probably in
Brandenburg. He married Ernstine Dorthea
Siegert prior to October 1868. Ernstine was born on May 31, 1833 in Germany and her father's name is
Fredrich Siegert. John died on October 19, 1915 in
Laramie,
Albany County,
Wyoming. Ernstine died on December 19, 1917, also in
Laramie.
They had three children;
Augusta Vorpahl, who married Herman Pregal on November 19, 1882 in Laramie; and two brothers, Frank H. Vorpahl (born October 1868 in
Brandenburg) and Gustav A. Vorpahl (born January 18, 1871, also in
Brandenburg).
Augusta arrived in the
New York on the
German Ship
Elbe on November 6, 1882 and immediately left for
Wyoming. Also on the
Elbe, listed immediately before her on the manifest, was Mr William Pruegel, a 59 year old male laborer. I believe that William was Herman's Father and that the name change was done to "Americanize" the family.
Two years later, on April 29, 1884 the
German Ship
Weser arrived in Baltimore with John, Ernstine, Herman and Gustav. On November 25, 1903 the brothers married two sisters in Laramie; Frank to Gesine
Voge and Gustav to
Ada Voge.
On October 21, 1920 Frank died in
Grenville,
Carbon County,
Wyoming as a result of a train accident. On April 9, 1954 Gustav died in
Los Angeles,
California.
Any information on John or Ernstine and their parentage, or the birth and/or death of
Augusta would be appreciated.
