Interested in corresponding with others researching in this area. Church books are either missing needed years, completely missing, or inaccessible. Interested in early 1800's life. (Villages: Schonfeld: Krumreich, Goritz: Maass Schapow: Hofert, Schmolln: Wagner, now Brandenburg, Germany) Thanks

I have a bit of information about Maass's from the region you are talking about. I also have a picture of the church in the city. That is the area that my great-great grandfather Wilhelm Maass came from.

I have corresponded with a local elderly woman who contacted local ministers concerning the church records that might be helpful for me. There were none related to my time period but there are some later ones available for Goritz. Schonfeld(the one directly east of Goritz) is really small. I do have pictues of the exterior of the church.

I need information on: Friederike Krumreich b. 15 Jan 1841 parents Gottfried/Maria, Schonfeld
Johanne Friederike Maass b 24 May 1829, Goritz

I am looking for information about the Maas family. Perhaps it is the same family as the William Maass mentioned above. There is a William in my family too apparently, but I am unable to identify where he was born or lived in Germany. I think it was Brandenburg, though.

My tree has siblings Johanne Friederike Maass Hofert b. 24 May 1829 and a brother? Samuel Maass. They immigrated in 1871 from Bremen to western NY (Wolcottsville, Niagara County, NY). I have no other names, no parents for ascendency. I do know that there is a dupilcate church book (1848-1874)for Goritz but have been trying to find out where the duplicate is held. Several children were baptized and I would like to see the sponsor entries. My relative had sponsors Neumann, Bartsch, Nemode. I am sorry not to have reponded previously. I have different e-mail addresses and sometimes am not notified of a response. Thanks for answering. Hope you are still interested.

I'm sorry I have no Charles in my family tree information. I will share this however with another family tree researcher who is trying to match her family to mine and who in fact has more Maass information than I do. I am still looking for a Christian and Andreas Maass that are listed as Godfathers to my great uncles at the turn of the century in Grant Park, IL. if anyone has any knowledge of who they are. We didn't know that Wilhelm Maass had any brothers, cousins, or whatever in this country but it looks like he did.

Maass is my G-G-Grandmothers Maiden name. Johanne Friederike Maass married my G-G-Grandfather, Johann Carl Friedrich Ferdinand Hofert around 1857 in Prussia. They lived in Goritz, Brandenburg, Prussia, until making the trip to U.S. in 1871, with five children. (Ship Magdellena) Another one of her descendants is also listed in this thread, Jane, with whom I am also in communication. She died 12 May 1903 in Hartland, Niagara county, N.Y.
