Lenzerwische

Can anyone tell me where Lenzerwische (in West Prignitz) is, or what it is? I have seen numerous references to it but do not find it on any of my maps. Is it a village? Or perhaps a district or area?
Also, how do you translate "wisch"? I have also seen references to Oberwisch, etc. All I can find in my Cassell's German-English dictionary is that "wisch" is a rag, a wisp of straw, of a wiper.
If you have any connections to, or family surnames associated with Moedlich, Seeforf, or Breetz, I'd like to hear from you. Thanks to the research on our behalf of a professional genealogist, we now know that we have roots in the Moedlich area that go back over four hundred years. The surnames are Alfert/Alberss, Betcke, Bluethen, Cratzmann, Faehrmann, Fran(c)ke, Froligk, Gercke/Gericke, Jan, Klentzendorf, Leusatt, Luetcke, Mertens, Moering, Ortmann, Ratcke, Roehle/Ruehle, Schal, Schultz, Sommer, Wernicke (and variant spellings), Wilcke, and Willbrandt. Some of these families were of Dutch origin. Thank you. Dena Ward

Hi,
Lenzerwisch is called Lenzerwische today (look http://service.brandenburg.de/apps/wrapper/maps/maps.faces?i...). It is the most Western Place of Brandenburg today. Wisch means Meadow in Lower German, so there were the meadows of Lenzen, a town nearby.
Kind regards

Thank you very much for your response regarding Lenzerwische. I had rather surmised that it was an area in west Brandenburg along the Elbe River, but your reply has been very helpful, more enlightening. I did not know that "wisch" translated as "meadow". I am always seeking to know more about the area from which my mother's parents emigrated, that is, West Prignitz, whether it be history, geography, customs, culture, etc. I consider that my heritage encompasses more than just names and dates. Thank you again. Regards, Dena
