Re: Simon SULLWOLD and Amelia BANIECKA, Berlin, Germany

Hello, Jeffrey. I don't have answers to your questions about early Sullwold or Baniecka, but I did want to say hello because I think we are distantly related. My great-great-grandmother was Margaret Sullwold, sister of your great-great-grandmother Amelia Sullwold. I am from New Orleans originally, where William S. Sullwold and Augusta Sullwold lived during the 1880 census. My grandmother still remembers Margaret Sullwold fairly well, since she lived a very long life. She also vaguely remembers a great "Aunt Emma," which actually could have been "Aunt Amelia" shortened. So, my direct line on the Sullwold side is:

Simon Sullwold / Amelia Baniecka Sullwold;
William Simon Sullwold / Augusta Goetz Sullwold;
___ Herkender / Margaret Sullwold Herkender;
Felix (sp?) Migliarrio / May Herkender Migliarrio;
Dudley Parker / Althea Migliarrio Parker;
Edward / Beverly;
Lori
Hi Thomas.

Thank you for your answer.
I don't know if I understood you correctly, did you mean that Sigvard moved to Berlin in 1911? Isn't Hedwig a wife of Sigvard? Is she "on her own"? So Sigvard didn't live at Kommendantenstrasse?

Regards

Mats

I am looking for my ancestor Per Sigvard Ljungberg born in Malmö Caroli, Sweden August 30th 1882. He left Malmö and moved to Svenska Victoriaförsamlingen in Berlin. He worked as a furrier (Kurscner) in Sweden and I believe that he had his own business as a furrier in Berlin too. Thats what the Swedish parish books say. I think that he moved to Berlin in the early 1900's, but he wasn't registrered in Sweden that he had moved until March 2nd 1933. I have some information that he lived in Kommendantstrasse 32, Berlin in 1935, maybe he was dead in 1936. His wife name could have been Hedwig.

/ Mats Alm

Hello FamFo,

Many thanks for your email. I have requested the film from Salt Lake City, Utah (Head Office of FamilySearch). I have ordered 5 films containing birth records of Georg Rockhaus and also Marie and Carl's additional children. Hopefully these films will offer some additional information.

Once I have copies of these records I will contact the Church Archive suggested in regards to a marriage/death record.

The hardest thing is to find these websites when you are using "Google" to translate English>German and German>English.

Thank you very much for all your assistance. I'm sure others who are searching Church records in Berlin and Germany will find your post very helpful.

Kindest regards,
Paislee.

Hello,

I can remember me the rare name Rockhaus and your research.
In according to the entries of family-search, a suggest:

Ask direkt by the Archive, to get a copy of the birth certificate of Georg Rockhause. Charite-Church. And marriage cartificate of Maria Rockhaus and Friedrich Pohle St. Georgen-Church (there were the first Child born)
Timeframe: 1861 to 1863
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NTHT-1H2

One shomaker (Schuhmacher) W. Pohle was living near the St. Georgen cementry, and not far from FC Pohle (3,5 km).

I know, that the Archive have only small options to search. It can be, that they answer, that you have to hire someone. This answer often, if you have not good informations. I think by the birth and marriage,
you have good options, that they do it.

The link to the protestant church archive.
http://www.landeskirchenarchivberlin.de/kirchenbuchstelle-be...

Hello Paislee.Its very simple why his Father is not listed.He was a illegitimate Child.Maybe Friedrich Carl Pohle was his Father.Strangly,i found at least between 1862-1870 in the Berlin Adressbook a "F C Pohle" at "Neue Roßstraße 6".Could be him.The later Records from Charitee-church(after 1874) are still in Berlin(eralier ones are also there).So in Order to find his first Wife the best Chance is searching in the Marriagerecords between 1880-1901 and while searching there i could check for his Birthrecord to.I only Trust Infos from lDS until i have seen the original Record itself.
Do you know if he came in 1902 via Bremen or Hamburg to NZ?
I could do the Search for you in Berlin,but i would than have to ask for Payment.Should you decide of letting me search further ,i would be happy.
Had the Luck of turning my Hobby Genalogy into a Job several Years ago.

Philipp

Hi Philipp,

I can attached information on here so I thought this would be the best way to go so that anyone else who is researching this particular family in future has this information online.

Attachments are as follows:

1) Birth Record: Deutschland, Geburten und Taufen 1558-1898. This was accessed via familysearch.org
As you will see there is no father named. His mother 'Auguste Marie Rockhaus' eventually begins a relationship with a 'Friedrich Carl Pohle' - this is searchable via familysearch.org if you are interested.

2) Marriage Record: This shows Georg's section of his New Zealand Marriage record.

3) Names - Father and Mother: This is a close up section of the marriage record. As you will see Georg has advised his fathers name is: 'Carl Rockhaus'. His mothers name is misspelt, similar to that of his last name. New Zealand is a very young country with settlers only coming in around the 1850s. I would suggest that the spelling mistakes are due to mis-communication.

4) Widower: This is the particular area I am interested in but have not been able to find answers in Germany. Listed on his New Zealand marriage certificate is that Georg is a widower, and that his first wife passed in 1902.

5) New Zealand Naturalisation record: This confirms the correct spelling of Georg's last name "Rockhaus" vs "Rockhouse" as stated on the marriage license.

6) Shipping: An example of Georg's shipping records in case this helps. Georg's existing shipping records are from 1899 to 1902. Georg immigrated to New Zealand in 1902.

My first goal at this stage is to find his first wife's name.

Any assistance is appreciated - ie what authority I can contact to move forward in my research.
Hi Philipp,

Yes I have searched ancestry and various other sites.
I believe I know the website you are discussing in regards to the address books: http://adressbuch.zlb.de/
I have searched the years around his birth (1861) looking for his parents family, and many years after he would have become 18. I have not yet found anything.
Thank you for the complements. I have been called out, so I'm not able to access my records for a few days. I will email you on my return.
Kind regards,
Paislee.

Hello.My Name is Philipp Marquardt and i am a Researcher in Germany(live in lower Saxony not far away from Hannover).Lived for several Years in Berlin and i search and still search there today.In the old Adressbooks is no Person with the Name "Rockhaus".In 1861 is only a Carl Rock(Shoemaker) at Jerusalemer Straße 9 listed.Since your Carl was a Bootmaker this one could be a Clue.It would not surprise me if the Familyname was changed while leaving Germany.
The Churchrecords from the Charitee-church(B 1727-1874/M 1735-1874/D 1727-1874) are in the Statearchive of Saxony in Leipzig(have been here very often) today.Please tell me if i can do something for you.Here is my E-mailadress:imothep240@yahoo.de

To whom it may concern:

I am looking to obtain a marriage certificate/any assisting information from Germany.

Information is below:
Name: Georg August Oscar Rockhaus
Date of Marriage: Between 1879 - 1898 (I've stated this as he would be 18 in 1879 and I have international shipping records starting 1898).
Wife: Unknown
Children: Unknown
Married in Church: Specifically unknown but highly likely in Berlin.
Stated on 2nd marriage certificate (1907): "Widower"

Additional information which may assist:
Birth: 31st October 1861
Baptism: 10th November 1861
Church of Baptism: Charite Kirche, Berlin Statd
Mother: Auguste Marie Rockhaus (nee Rockhaus)
Father: Carl Rockhaus (not registered on birth certificate but outlined on New Zealand marriage certificate. Carl's profession: Bootmaker).
Discharged from Shipping: 1902
Some ships that he worked on as a firefighter between 1898 - 1902: Loch Lommond & Mercator, Viola, Odessa.
Profession in New Zealand: Bootmaker.

I have not been able to attain information on the first marriage from New Zealand held records and am having trouble with German based genealogists and record companies. I have also searched Berlin resident records and German specific ancestry sites with no luck.

Please advise accordingly if you can assist. Any information, eg a list of appropriate Standesamt's to search today, any records with the "Rockhaus" name in Berlin around this time would be highly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Paislee.

Hi BKelvie,

I'm trying to research as well and having trouble.
You can write to the "Standesamt" which is the area office and requesting the documentation - but your letter must be in German. The other option (should you have the required information) is using this service: http://www.germany-service.com/) In my particular case it was a first marriage and I have no record of year/church/wife's name.

Let me know if you have made any progress in the years since you posted this thread and if so, how you made this progress.

Kind regards

Hello again.In the 1930 Adressbook from Berlin are only 5 Tailors listed named Hartmann.Since you used the Word "Seamstress", i asume that one of these Man could be her Father.Another Clue migth show the two Birthrecords from Würzburg wich i would be able to get,but due to the Fact that they are so young i would need a Permission from you saying that you are a Relative and that i am getting them on your Behalf.In other Words i see at least a good Chance of finding more Infos from her Family.

Regards

Thank you Mr. Marquardt! Nobody remembers where exactly she lived in Berlin. The only additional info I have about her PRIOR to her traveling to the USA is that she gave birth to 2 of her children in Wurzburg, Germany:
Rainer P.H. Ray - born March 29, 1951
Barbara M. Ray - born February 10, 1953
Her husband, their father, was Richard Ray, a soldier from the U.S.

That's all I have other than her being born in Berlin in 1930. Sorry!

Hey everyone!

I am trying to find out information about my grandmother's family. I would love to know if I have any living relatives over in Germany that I can visit with.

My grandmother was Erika Hartman/Hartmann, born in Berlin in 1930. I do not know her parent's names. She had 2 brothers, Peter & Herbert, as well as 2 sisters, Hilda & Barbara, all of whom are deceased.

My grandmother, while still living in Germany, met my grandfather, Richard Douglas Ray when he was in the military, stationed in Germany. As far as I know, they married in Germany (early 1950's) and had 2 children there, Rainer P.H. and Barbara M. before my grandmother came to the U.S. to live. She and the children sailed over from Port of Bremerhaven on Ship General Henry W. Buttner and arrived in New York on March 21, 1955.

After arriving in the U.S., they had more children, a total of 5 boys and 3 girls. From what I'm told, my grandfather left when the children were all still very young. My grandmother re-married at some point before passing away in New Jersey, U.S. in 1991.

If anyone could help me out with ANY information, I would truly appreciate it. I've never known any of my grandmother's family information and I would really like to.

Thanks again,
Stephanie

I am a descendant of Charles August Haserodt born 1826 in Prussia who married Fredrika Rothe and immigrated to Pennsylvania him in 1858, and her in 1860 with 3 children. They eventually moved to North Dakota and they both are buried in Custer, ND.

I am trying to find how to track them in Germany before they arrived.

Trying to find the contact information for the Tegel Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Berlin. I googled it and sent a letter to the address of Wittestrasse 37, 13509 Berlin, but it came back as incorrect address. Any suggestions? Thanks.

A few records state Austria but death records for their children state parents were from Germany. Have found two documents that state Berlin, a birth record for a daughter and a probate record. I've found the census isn't always correct.

Hi,

I wonder why you insist on Joseph and Veronica coming from Germany, whereas all information found in census is that both of them are born in Austria.

Kind regards,

Thomas

Hi -

Can anyone help me look up birth certificate information for:

Veronica Josephine Hugreth (married name Elger)

B: 18 Nov 1824 in Berlin

I have been looking for her for over 15 years and am determined to find her. She came to the US on 20 Sep 1852.

She didn't leave much of a trail in the US once she arrived, so am desperately hoping I can find information on her back in Berlin.

Help?

Tips?
