You'd better put your query on the Berlin board.

I can put one in German on a German mailing list for you. As once I needed assistance in Berlin for my own family research project I hired someone who did a really good job. If you want to get in touch with him please e-mail me directly at byriga@aol.com

Gaby (Germany)

Have you had a look at the online address books at Berlin yet?

http://adressbuch.zlb.de/

I could offer to put a query in German on the Berlin boards for you. As some time ago I needed professional assistance in Berlin I hired a local genealogist and within three weeks he found what I wanted. His fees are quite reasonable. If you would like to get in touch with him please e-mail me directly at byriga@aol.com.

This ancestry account is my cousin's.

Gaby (Germany)

If yes then It's almost certainly my great grandmother.

Ursula spent nearly all of her childhood in the convent, Her mother only returned for her when she was about 13 years old, Ursula hated it and soon ran away back to the convent she was later fostered.

I'm hoping somewhere there are records of Ursula's time in the convent and records of Klara and later the couple who fostered Ursula.

It's a lot to hope for but thank you so much for your help, you've been fantastic.

You're welcome - glad to be a bit of help! I took another look but found Quebec records difficult to find online. I would suggest you enter the Quebec message board to get an idea of some sites you can find on internet. I don't know how UK Ancestry works but I tried the search button and put Hugo's info in the search. It brought up scads of Canadian Passenger Lists, and border crossings, etc. I can't access Canadian right now as I have an American membership. Most of my Canadian stuff is in British Columbia but I do intend to go for a Canadian membership for a short time in the (hopefully, near) future. Maybe someone in Quebec can lead you through Vital Stats Archives (marriages, births, deaths). If not, contact me again via e-mail wlslater@live.ca and when I get a Canadian membership going, I'll try to help again! Thank you for the offer of help in UK. I haven't quite got that far as my Canadians seem to have rooted in USA for a few generations. If I can take a rain check, I may take you up on that offer. I know finding the online sites in a foreign country (or province, LOL) is nigh impossible. Good Luck! Hope to TTU again!

Anna Maria Schmitt/Schmidt/ Schmitz nee Zimmerman

I just learned that my ggg-grandmother Anna Maria, wife of Theodor SCHMITT was Anna Maria Zimmerman. According to census' and their childrens death records Anna and her husband were from Prussia. My g-grandfather' 1920 and 1930 census states Berlin. Anna was born between 1819-1824. She would have married Theodor before 1840 as their daughter Maria Eva was born 1840/1841 in Prussia and my gg-grandmother Elizabeth was born either Dec 1842 or Jan 1843 also in Prussia or Berlin. They left from the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1843 and arrived at Castle Garden (New York) June 21, 1843. I don't know how long they stayed in New York. The son born to them, John was b. abt 1845 in Wisconsin. Twins Joseph and Franklin were born in 1851 in Milwaukee, WI. A daughter Julia was b. abt 1849. Sons George and Henry may have also been born in Milwaukee, but I have yet to find out for sure. The family moved to La Crosse, WI between 1855-1860. Anna' husband Theodor died in April of 1860 in La Crosse. Daughter Julia also seems to have died before 1860. Anna died sometime in the 1880'. Anna, Theodor and sons Franklin and Joseph are buried in the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse. Franklin married Rebecca Lee. Joseph married Bertha Sattler (Saddler). My gg-grandmother Elizabeth married gg-grandfather John J. Cole. They family seems to have used the English version of the surname spelling from the 1860 census onward: SMITH. Does anyone recognize this family?

I am trying to source information relating to my German ancestors and to build a family tree.

My father Heinrich Walter Dittman(n), born 1905, Stettin, Germany and came to Australia in 1925. His brother Willi Werner Konrad Dittmann came to Australia in 1953. All of the other family remained in Germany. Other names are Albert Dittmann (married Erna ?) and Elise Dittmann (married name Eichhart). There may have been other brothers and sisters that I am unaware of. Their parents were Robert and Augustina (Hopner or Hopfner).

Any information regarding this family would be appreciated.

NEUMANN in Berlin

Looking for my ancestor JULIUS NEUMANN who was born in around 1830 in Prussia (probably Berlin), got married (don't know the name of the wife) and moved to Odessa, Ukraine to oversee the development of railroads there. He got married probably around 1856 in Berlin. He had a daughter named ALWINA who may have been born in Prussia or in Odessa. I am trying to find records that may have something to do with him and his family. Because he was educated (he was an engineer)and worked in the railroad business perhaps those would be useful leads; I just don't know where to start. Any advice is appreciated!!

Ursula Reetz birth certificate please translate for me

Hi if anyone can help translate the full certificate that would be fantastic, I don't trust the free online translation tools, Also the handwriting is a major challenge.

Some feedback

Ursula Reetz was my grandmother, she was born in Berlin and raised by nuns in a convent in Berlin (I've yet to discover which one) At age 11 She was taken out of the convent by her biological mother and treated like a slave, She ran back to the convent soon after. She was fostered out a couple of times after that by the nuns, once to a farmer in Poland, Then to a family in Berlin. She was in an Air raid shelter one day and when she got home the building was flattened and her foster family all killed.

She was later captured by the Russians and lined up against a wall, every other person was shot, Thank god my Grandmother was one of the lucky others. She was helped by a Russian soldier to escape, she managed to get to where the English soldiers were camped and got a job in the Naffi.

The soldiers helped get her a job in England after they showed her an advert.

That's all we know, My grandmother would hardly ever speak of her childhood without becoming very upset and crying. A lot more obviously happened that was too painful for her to talk about.
Looking for relatives that are possibly related to me, my Father was born in Berlin, Germany, December 1927. He was supposedly adopted by family members and never spoke in regards to any of his family. He served in the Army towards the end of the war and later around the mid 1950's held jobs at the railroad, Post Office and even worked as a auxiliary Police Officer. Married twice, once in Germany and later divorced in the late 60'S while residing in the united states. Some of the paper work he had in possession, states that Gustay Wilhelm Lindener Schulz and Martha Johana Hedwig Schulz, where his parents. I have more information I will post later on his first wife and where he worked as a gardener in the U.S. Any leads or information would be greatly welcomed, thank you.

R/

J.H Schulz
Hi, I have no connections to this branch -- this site sends me messages whenever anything re Berlin is posted as I was trying to find my ancestors the Elstermanns (von Elster) and Wisers. Regardless, I ran a quick look at the Quebec census 1911 and found:
Hugo Wild, b. 1870 June in Berlin living in Montreal West with his wife Margaret P. Wild, b. 1880 in Quebec. Margaret's racial origin is Irish; both nationalities are listed as Canadian; both R. Catholic; Hugo is a merchant of produce. Hope that helps. If you can give me a site to search for my line, I would appreciate it.

21, 42857 Remscheid, Germany (#2) Thomas Thomssen, Stumpfer Weg 2, 26135 Oldenburg, Germany (#3) Mitterbauer Roland , Schwarzenbach Str. 49 A-3161 St. Veit/Gölsen (#4) AdlerFlorian, Kramerstr.39, 87700 Memmingen (#5) Nikolaus Umlauf, Richardsweg 8, A-6020 Innsbruck, Austria.(#6) Maurice Görg, Wickstädterstraße 47, 61197 Florstadt, Germany.

STUFE 4: Jetzt postest (also veröffentlichst) Du Deinen ergänzten Artikel in mindestens 200 Newsgroups.

"Her daughter Ursula Erika Reetz was raised by nuns in a convent close to Spandau prison..."

This part is important and decision for a her settlement to England. Nuns convent Spandau = Johannisstift
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelisches_Johannesstift_Ber...

Maybe:
- after born Ursula Reetz, she work there. Its very large Objekt with a lot different houses and use for her doughter programs for children.
- later "Kinderlandverschickung (KLV) outside of Berlin, aerea Soldin
- it is possibility that she were a survivor of the Execution in Soldin
- because she came from "Johannisstift Spandau" it was possible that she go back to Spandau. Change the russian Sektor to the english Sektor.
- Spandau was in english Sektor 1945 (inc. Johannisstift)

I think that the "Johannisstift" Berlin is a point to look the mothers way.
Hi, My gt. grandfather married a Fahlenkamp lady. I have an unnamed photograph which belonged to him, it is of a lady about 100 years or more ago and it was taken at a studio in Berlin. I believe she was probably a Fahlenkamp. My question for you is - would your ancestors be living in Berlin 100 years ago?
If so, do you know anything about them?
Regards, Pamela

I AM seeking the parents of anton siebert born 1818 berlin, germany, and yes they were catholics.anton lived in wisconsin until after 1870,he then moved his family to colfax county, nebraska, the last census he shows up in is the 1900 colfax county, nebraska census.i think he must have died about 1902.i,ve heard stories that he went back over to germany, but i rather discount that story.he was already 81 years old in 1900.i would like any information on my anton siebert he was my great grandfather.
