I have an ancestor from Wurttemberg who's maiden name is written as "Franzef" on her children's birth registration. The "informant" for the registration was her husband, but the clerk may have written it phonetically. In addition, I have a handwritten family tree by her grandchild that lists her maiden name as "Brancep". Since neither appear as valid surnames, the truth must be somewhere in between the two.
Does anyone have any ideas on what it might be? The surname "Franz" is not uncommon but I think there must be another syllable on the end.
