It is possible to search the Baden-Württemberg Emigration Index online, with over 250,000 names of people who applied for permission to emigrate from the Grand-Duchy of Baden to various parts of the world.
http://auswanderer2.lad-bw.de:8080/auswanderer/deutsch/index...Click: „Suchen Sie Ihre Vorfahren“. (search for your ancestors)
Then click "Suchformular" (search form)
And fill in the first blank with last (surname, family) name. Separate
different spellings with a semi-colon. If you have additional
information, enter it. It will help to eliminate extra people (but
don't enter first name). For example, <1850 will give you everyone with
that surname, prior to 1850. If a town is listed, then do a second
search, enter that into “Herrkunft” or “Ort”, and it should give you a list
of people who left from that town; you might find other family members
and in-laws. You can also search on name variants (i.e., “Schmitt;
Schmidt”). There’s a limited number of characters in the name box.
Click “Anfrage Senden” (send query).
When you have a list of possibles, there is a little eye in the second
column. Clicking on that gives you additional information (sometimes).
For the Baden part of the modern state Baden-Württemberg you’ll usually only get the name of the emigrant and the place of origin and plus the year of emigration. Emigrants from Württemberg are mostly listed with more specific data such as birth date and/or the exact date of emigration etc.
Actually the page is in German language only. They are working on a english online version, but it will take some more time (it’s a volunteer work). You may need to use a dictionary. A good online one is here:
