Looking for the birth of Joseph Musilek, born about 1871-1872. Probably in the Herman, Jerisno, Malec, or Sec towns.
These are not yet digitized on the Zamrsk archive site. Joseph's father was John/Jan/Johann. Mother was Mary/Maria or Frantiska( Maiden name Filip).
Siblings should be Vincenz, b. about 1861, and Marie, b. about 1865.
Anyone going to the state archives in Zamrsk?
Many thanks for your time and talent.
Jean Tvrdy

You are so kind Jean....Thank You!
I noticed on his death cert. it stated his father was John Businsky as well...His NAT cert. in 1876 just states Bohemia...no other info....I have ordered Volume 1,5 and 8 from my library share program since those were the volumes that contained their year of immigration 1871...it will be interesting to view them...if the inter library "share" works.
It is frustrating... I feel they came thru Canada since it is so close...but have found no Businsky on any passenger list anywhere...and sadly any other families who have searched Businsky either don't have as much info or are Private and do not answer my replies...UGH!
I have sound a free facebook page for German Genealogy
Group to do add'l searches for my Keup/Hoeller side and Bohemian-Czech-Moravian-Silesian Genealogy Group...I have posted pictures on both...ya never know!
thanks again ...Lisa

I looked in the Baca books and did not find your Businsky or Sebek. Also looked for variations in the spelling of the names.
I did however find Businsky name in the area of Jistebnice and Alenina Lhota, Benesov, near Prague.
I looked at John's death cert, and it was of no help. Have you found his naturalization papers? I also looked for an online source for his obituary and didn't find that either.
Sorry to be of so little help.
Any other Bohemian names in the Baca books you need, just let me know.
Jean

Raymond Lenz and Barbara Fishbach Lenz were my great-great grandparents. They came to the USA from Marienbad in the early 1800's. It was their son Franz who died on the ship coming over. Anna, Joseph and Anton (my great-grandfather) all made it to America. They went to Wisconsin then Stacy, Iowa. They went by covered wagon to Conde, South Dakota, Spink County, with the Steffes family. Raymond fought in the Civil War and is buried in the Catholic cemetery in Turton, SD. "Tony" and Joe were leaders in their community of Conde. Tony and Gertrude Steffes Lenz had 9 children, two died of the black measles in the late 1800's. All of Tony's children earned college degrees. Otto, Joe and Bernard were doctors. Tony and Gertrude are buried in Conde, SD along with their daughter, Maryanna (Maude)Lenz King, my grandmother.

My Great Grandfather was born in Dlouhonovice, East Bohemia, Czech Republic. His name was Johann Josef Dostalek and born on 26 Apr 1891. He had a brother Frank and a sister Maria. Frank had at least two sons and one of them is a Frank Jr. the other possibly Jaroslav.

I'm looking for confirmation of spelling on last name. During my research I am seeing Dostalkova popping up a lot. Is this the correct spelling? Also, wanting any info on my Great Grandfathers relatives especially his mother and father. From what my mother and Grandfather told me, the family should still be in that same area. Any help from any one would be appreciated.

I am trying to find out what happened to my great-grandmother's brother, Anton Prause, primarily: where, when and how did he die? What became of his two children?

Anton Prause and my ancestors lived in the town of Mitteldorf which is just north of what is now called Rokytnice v Orlických horách. Mitteldorf is now called Prostredni Rokytnice. The Prauses had a grain mill there.

Anton was born 25 January 1874 to Catholic master-miller Franz Prause and Theresia Rucker. Anton himself became a master-miller and I am pretty sure served in the Austrian-Hungarian army for a while. He married Anna Diwischek on 8 Oct 1901. Together they had two children: Anton Eduard Prause (b. 9 March 1904) and Anna Elisabeth Prause (b. 17 November 1905). Anton's wife Anna died on 31 March 1906, only 23 years old, from tuberculosis. On 22 October 1909, Anton arrived in New York, having emigrated from Mitteldorf, Austria-Hungary. He went to live with his sister Anna (Prause) Christen and her husband Rudolf at their farm in Nebraska. Anton's children did not come with, as far as I can tell. After a while at his sister's farm he returned to Europe, presumably to Mitteldorf. I think he returned before World War I. I don't know what happened to him since then, other than he might have been alive after World War II. Family lore is that my great-grandmother (his sister) sent care packages to him following the war. A cousin's uncertain recollection was that he was in a concentration camp of some sort. I also do not know what became of his two children, whether they grew up and had families. It's entirely possible that Anton & family were nowhere near Mitteldorf during either world wars.

Any information or ideas where to look for the fate of Anton and his two children would be most appreciated.

I just learned of my Fillipi line, and do not have much information. What I have is: Josefa Plihal (b. 1841 Teleci, Bohemia-d. 1933 Minnesota)--her maiden name was Zahradnik. Her father was Vaclav Zahradnik from Teleci #85 and her mother was Josefa Filipi, probably from Lacnov #4. She married Frantisek Plihal on August 11, 1865 after the death earlier that year of her first husband, Frantisek Fajmon, Teleci #140. I have much info after they came to U.S. and would be pleased to share. Any information about any of their lives and families in Bohemia would be appreciated! June McNew

Looking for info on great-grandfather George Trojcak and family

Here's the information that I have on my family. My great-grandparents, George Trojcak and wife Elizabeth Levi Trojcak immigrated with infant daughter Anna around 1890. The story from family members is that George was involved in the death of a police officer and that's the reason for the move to the states. I don't know the circumstances around the story.

They are listed in census information from Virden and Chicago Illinois in 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 which states that they came from Austria/Hungary/Czeckoslovakia.

George's info from family records:
George Trojcak (Jan 1863-Jul 1929) born in Austria/Hungary

His parents:
Steve Trojcak - born in Austria/Hungary
Anna Kostkas - born in Austria/Hungary

Elizabeth's info from family records:
Elizabeth Levi (Nov 1866-Dec 1931) born in Austria/Hungary

Her parents:
Andrew Levvi/Levi- born in Austria/Hungary
Anna Wolf - born in Austria/Hungary

George Trojcak and Elizabeth Levi Trojcak's children:
Ann R Trojcak (1890-1989) born in Czechoslovakia
My grandmother - Elizabeth Trojcak (1901-1987) born in Illinois
Mary Trojcak (1896-1970) born in Illinois
John Paul Trojcak (1898-1962) born in Illinois
Mike Trojcak (1899-1979) born in Illinois
Stephen Trojcak (1903-1973) born in Illinois
Agnes Trojcak (1906-) born in Illinois
Julia Trojcak (1908-1983) born in Illinois

I'd like to find information on where George and Elizabeth were born and possibly info about the reasons they came to the State. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathleen Devlin Monks

The one Filipi in my tree was born in Ceska Trebova. I know this isn't Teleci, but most of the Filipi's never strayed far from Litomyšl. Does anyone have any information on Frank (I assume Frantisek) Filipi born abt 1821 in Ceska Trebova? In abt 1851-2 he married Josefina Kozak (or Holac, b: abt 1827) in Bohemia. The couple immigrated through New Orleans in 1855 with young daughter Marie, settling first in Wisconsin, then in abt 1868 finally settling for good in the Czech community around Wilber, Nebraska. They had a total of eight children and both died in Wilber, Nebraska in 1883. I do not have a precise birth location for Marie, but I imagine it can't be too far from the places mentioned above.

Any help with the Filipis in the old country would be great! Thanks.

I looked thru the names in your website, but at this point none of them fit into my family. Most of my Sykoras were from Sec (closer to Chrudim), with a few from the Zleby area. So far the Vaclav & Marie Sykora in my first message haven't been connected to my other Sykoras either. I figure they are probably connected distantly.
Also have Prochazkas from the Ronov & Zleby area, some of whom migrated to Chicago & some to Hungary, but so far your names don't fit with mine. Again, since they're from the same general area, they're probably related distantly.
Are you doing any research in Czech Republic for more ancestors?

I believe many/most Jilks in USA are related....it's a strange name. Family tradition says the CZ spelling was "JILEK". They lived in Dolne Dubroc in Northern CZ near Polish border. We no longer have contact with any CZ family. Hope this helps. Related??? larry Jilk

Hi - I know this is an old post but thought you would be interested in a JEZEK cemetery in Calwell, Burleson county, Texas with several JEZEKS buried there. (2 Josef Jezeks) Go to Findagrave.com and search for JEZEK Cemetery.
Josef Jezek d.1886
Josef Jezek aged 81 yrs
Anna Jezek d. 1883
Frantisek Jezek d. 1906
Marie Jezek aged 56 years
This cemetery is on my family's property and I am trying to document when I can.
Hope this is helpful..........Chris

Jean:
As I mentioned, I do have the marriage certificate and a birth certificate for John Rudolph and Mary Catherine's first child, which lists the towns they came from: Zalmany and Frankov in Bohemia. However, I am not sure if these would be there birth places.

Jean:
It is amazing what you have unearthed and I am extremely grateful. I would have at first thought that the first Johann might be the one...since the names are all family names. However, my mother contends that he (John Rudolph Novak) was an only child. He did bring his parents over at some point and their names were John and Helen. I do not have a death certificate or obit that would shed some light on an accurate place of birth. All I have at this point is the 1886 marriage certificate from St. Wencheslaus Church in Baltimore, MD. I will send for the death certificates for both John Rudolph and Mary Catherine Novak from PA. Not sure why I did not do that so far.
You have been a great help and seem like an angel to provide this information. Thanks so much.

After looking for your John R. Novak, I do not believe he is in the Baca books. Although I do find two possibles....
1, Johann Nowak,22, arr. June 4, 1881, with family of parents Joh. & Anna, and sibs Anna, Ludmilla, Agnes, Franz, Ludwig and Friediech, sailing on board the "Baltimore". Don't think this is your guy.
2. Johann Nowak, 23, arr. Sept 23, 1880, dest. Nebraska, with parents Franz and Johanna. Don't think this is your guy either.
I do believe this Johann Novak, age 24, arr. 1880, Baltimore is yours, from the Polish Arrivals at the Port of Baltimore by Jeanne Davis-White.
Also think that the John Noak on the 1880 census in Baltimore is yours, He is a shoe maker. Entered twice, first one on June 8 and second on June 10. He is with Vincent Forest and Joseph Benesch both times.
I didn't find anything for Mary in the Baca books.
Do you have a death certificate or obituary for John that would indicate an accurate place of birth?
Jean

Many Public Libraries in cities where Czechs settled have selected Volumes of these books -- Texas, Illinois Wisconsin etc. Specify which specific volumes you are interested in and contact the Reference Librarian in that city.

Good Hunting.
The birth year per census records for John Rudolph Novak is 1859, although the headstone for his grave says 1865. Mary Catherine Pisarchik's birthdate is 1864 per census records, but her headstone says 1871. They were married in Baltimore in January 1886 and had three children there, then moved to Richmond, Va where I find them in the city directories in 1893 and 1894. By 1900 they had moved to Dunmore, PA where I find them on the census record and had three more children born in PA.
