I have gone through the Liteň 04 register (births 1751-1784 - see link at end below) for the period with tabular presentation (c 1772-1784) and also included a few that I found in the baptisms in Liteň 06 on Actapublica. This has enabled me to make a virtual surname census by house number for this small town.

1 - WOLF
2 - NEGISPA
3 - GERZABEK
4 - PAREZ
5 - BUNIAT
6 - HAJEK
7 - ???
8 - BERAN
9 - PISCHWEITZ
10 - KOTERZ
11 - HRABIE
12 - SWOBODA, WESTRECZKY
13 - MENGER, TAUSSEX?
14 - MENGER
15 - LIWA
16 - CHALUPETZKY

no number given - RUZIEZKA

One of the 1782 Krupná baptisms (Krupná #9 - PISCHWEITZ) is at:

http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/7913/?strana=1...

And you can scroll to prior or subsequent pages with the green arrows at the top left.

The period from about 1772 to about 1780 has no Krupná baptisms ... not sure why nor where they were going to baptize their kids during that period. But there are Krupna baptisms both after and before this empty period.

Here is a link to one in 1770 (Krupná #1 - WOLF):

http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/7913/?strana=1...

These names are quite familiar to me, either because I know someone here with those names or have run into them during my Bohemian research. Vancura especially. But Vodicka, Janosek, Benes also. (One of my student graders was a Benes.) So do you know WHERE in the US these folks settled? Even generally? I know you implied you do not know, but perhaps a region? East coast? Midwest? Do you have any precise birthdates?

According to Sobotka, we have one Vodicka in Nebraska, Josef, and he was from Chlumetin, Hlinsko, Chrudim. We have two Vancuras, Jan from Cinoves, Kr. Mestec, Jicin, and Vaclav from Zbudovice, Caslav. Mat. Vlach from Vilimov, Kolc. Jenikov, Caslav, and a Leonard from the Plsen area. Too many Benes folks to list.

You just might be my saviour!
I didn't even know there was a Košice here. I knew of Košice in Slovakia because the IIHF games were there a couple years ago. I found my great-grandfather's WW2 draft card here on ancestry.com which said his birthplace was "Košicepella, Austria-Hungary". And a Slovak that I work with told me that just means he was from outside Košice. So I assumed he was born in Slovakia and moved somewhere to Bohemia before going to the US.
I guess it's back to Chodov for me. And now that I know where and when he was born I hope to find a document that I will be able to submit to apply for permanent residency.
Ještě jednou, děkuji moc.

Well, at least you and I read Josef the same, page 114. I could not decipher the rest of the handwriting today. Based on what the original poster wrote, we are on the right track -- Dominik was one of the children.

Did you try the marriage book to see if you could find a Vlasak (Wlassek, etc.) in it?

Isn't this fun?

Ok, readers. Check out this link.

http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/6233/?strana=1...

Signatura Kacov 24, Snimek 101 from the Prague archives.

I think there is a Josef Vlasak (Wlashak) at lower left. But I don't see an Ignatz in the next column, but then again, I am overwhelmed by the hand. This is not a style I have seen yet. Do I even have the correct Polipsy?

If so, unfortunately the two books where this record might be are not yet online. Kacov 09 and Kacov 11. But Kacov 13 has marriages for the time, and I am going through it to find the Polipsy pages. There are 16 villages in this book.

I think I found Polipsy on Snimek 85, starting in the middle of the page. I didn't find a house 17, but it starts at 1823 at this point. It looks like the records were continued after a fill-in of another village.

http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/6222/?strana=8...

And here is the true 1785 beginning of Polipsy, image 75, page 39 in the book:
http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/6222/?strana=7...

Of course, if the bride were from a different village, the record would be there, not in Polipsy.

There are only about 12-14 images for Polipsy.

So you need to wait for publishing your parish books or hire somebody to do research in Prague archive (where the rest of those parish books are located now).

Utechvosty are part of Podveky village now: http://www.podveky.cz/

You're welcome.
I suspect that the tiny village of Utechvosty is presently part of town of Rataje nad Sazavou. I could be wrong. Most likely Utechvosty did not have a church and so the people attended had their baptism, marriage and funeral services done in the village closes to them within 10 miles radius. Best would be to ask someone who is more familiar with research in CZ.
Thank you Zlatica! The maps are helpful!!

I suspect my ancestors are from the tiny, tiny village of Utechvosty, which is just outside of Rataje Nad Sazavou.

If I wanted to search church records or census data in the Czech Archives, I understand that information would be organized geographically. With a village as small as Utechvosty (which is so small, I don't think it even has a church), would the records I seek be listed under the near town of Rataje Nad Sazavou?

I have laboriously gone through the 280 images of register Pozdeň 01 at ActaPublica.eu in order to identify the sections. This register contains records for the following towns: Bílichov, Hořešovice, Hořešovičky, Hřešice, Jedomělice, Líský, Pozdeň, Zichovec.

There are four sections. The link in each case is to the first image of that section. The book has three sections noted by title pages, but the baptismal section actually consists of two separate sections. All records of all sections cover the years 1718 to 1755.

1 - N (Births) - image 3 to image 152
http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/12928/?strana=...

2 - N (Illegitimate Births) - image 154 to image 160
http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/12928/?strana=...

3 - O (Marriages) - image 162 to image 201
http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/12928/?strana=...

4 - Z (Deaths) - image 203 to image 279
http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/12928/?strana=...

I am recording this here in case anyone else wants to wade through the many pages of this register and needs to know how it is organized.
I have no new information about your family, but I am sending to you a copy of Cadastre map from year 1838. Here is written Ignatz Wlasak (maybe father of Joseph, grandfather of your Ignatz) as an owner of house Nr.17 (yellow means wooden construction), near church of All Saints in Polipsy. He is, as you can see, also written Wlasak Ignatz, owner of the field. Maps are on http://archivnimapy.cuzk.cz

Looking for info regarding the Melech family who immigrated from Kutna Hora in 1907.
Joseph b. about 1868 and his wife Marie (Mary?) b. 1874
Mary's maiden name was Boharty.
Also - where would I write to obtain copies of their birth/marriage certificate(s)? They were Catholic so I guess I would need the names (addresses if possible) of the Catholic churches in the town.
Thanks

David,

Are you related to the Vlasak family?
Thank you so much for this map. You made my day. This will give me more to go from to find records of them there. It is harder to find family in the foreign records.
Thanks again!
Jennifer

Looking for information on the Vlasak family of Polipsy, Bohemia. Josef Vlasak is has far back as I have and all I have is his name. His children are Josef, Dominic, Olga and Ignatz. Ignatz came to America in 1873. Josef inherited the family home. Olga disappeared and Dominic died a beggar in Prague in 1899. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

Looking for info on great-grandfather George Trojcak and family

Here's the information that I have on my family. My great-grandparents, George Trojcak and wife Elizabeth Levi Trojcak immigrated with infant daughter Anna around 1890. The story from family members is that George was involved in the death of a police officer and that's the reason for the move to the states. I don't know the circumstances around the story.

They are listed in census information from Virden and Chicago Illinois in 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 which states that they came from Austria/Hungary/Czeckoslovakia.

George's info from family records:
George Trojcak (Jan 1863-Jul 1929) born in Austria/Hungary

His parents:
Steve Trojcak - born in Austria/Hungary
Anna Kostkas - born in Austria/Hungary

Elizabeth's info from family records:
Elizabeth Levi (Nov 1866-Dec 1931) born in Austria/Hungary

Her parents:
Andrew Levvi/Levi- born in Austria/Hungary
Anna Wolf - born in Austria/Hungary

George Trojcak and Elizabeth Levi Trojcak's children:
Ann R Trojcak (1890-1989) born in Czechoslovakia
My grandmother - Elizabeth Trojcak (1901-1987) born in Illinois
Mary Trojcak (1896-1970) born in Illinois
John Paul Trojcak (1898-1962) born in Illinois
Mike Trojcak (1899-1979) born in Illinois
Stephen Trojcak (1903-1973) born in Illinois
Agnes Trojcak (1906-) born in Illinois
Julia Trojcak (1908-1983) born in Illinois

I'd like to find information on where George and Elizabeth were born and possibly info about the reasons they came to the State. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathleen Devlin Monks
