Hmm. This book (picture attached) has several Potmesil entries. I couldn't find Jan born in 1870.

url:
http://actapublica.eu/matriky/praha/prohlizec/11517/?strana=...

But given that the town name is the same, it would be worth checking these folks out. They may be related, and might intersect with your line only 1 or 2 generations back.

Were they Catholic or Evangelical?
Mary.....Thank you for the response.
The people you mentioned are related to my wife's side of the family. John Sr. is her g-grandfather.

Something I need to clarify since the post. Jan Potmesil and his wife Rosa Sixta immigrated to the US about 1882. His father is Jan Potmesil, who married Anna Holanova. Jan and Rosa had a son John in 1870. When they got to the US, to differentiate the two, the son John became John Jr. and Jan was frequently referred to as John Sr.

The land they homesteaded in Box Butte County is still in the family.

The people I need some information on are John Sr's. parents, Jan and Anna (Holanova) Potmesil. I have been searching the Prague Archives, but without success. Jan and Anna did not immigrate to the US. At this point, I do not know if John Sr. had any siblings or if Jan had any brothers.

The location in the Czech Republic is perfect.

Thank you and I'll post again if I find anything.

Warren A. Sokol warrenasokol@yahoo.com

About the Basilian priest from Ukraine Josaphat Kaminski definitely knows something Mr. Josef Svoboda, professor Emeritus at University of Toronto, he was with him locked in a communist prison in the priestly division in Leopoldov.
Mr. Svoboda once said: "You can be a Christian intellectual, but can also be Christian believers. There is a difference. Was in jail with basilian priest from Ukraine Josaphat Kaminski, and he always spoke of believers priests. ....He said: Goal is but Christianity, which penetrates to the heart. The only one I can't find is Vaclav and Anna (parents) and youngest children may be only marie and bohunil (ben). I thought the JOsef in 1921 was coming to see his uncle Joseph so will have to check that out. THanks again for all your help.

Yes went to the county seat and got my grnadfather Alois's paper and he was nationalized, Stephans intent but never nationiazed. Four census said 1902 and I did find the whole family in Lindsey Nebraska in 1910.

Thanks

Just because the census says 1902 does not mean that the ancestor might not have made an error when they arrived.
Any other census they show up?
You have Alois's and Stefan's intent & petition?

Pronocil, Anna Sadlotin 32 1868 1900
Pronocil, Anna 4 1896 1900
Pronocil, Antonia Sadlotin 11 1889 1900
Pronocil, Josef 0 1900 1900
Pronocil, Marie Sadlotin 5 1895 1900
Pronocil, Voclar Sadlotin 37 1863 1900
The family going to Omaha, Nebraska.
to late for castle garden but looked there also, they came in about 1902 per census, were in Nebraska in 1910 census. There is no chance that I know that they were nationized, all I know is Alois and Stefn were.
You looked in www.castlegarden.org
By any chance Anna, Josef, Bohumil or Marie were naturalized citizen? The ones I am looking for is Vaclav (1851-1933) and Anna (Kasalova) Potmesil (1875-1968) and Josef 1890-1957, Bohumil 1892-1939) and Marie Anna (1894-1966) there were Alois, Bozena, Stefen, Miena, Vaclav and Aloisie and they all came over at different times and have found all of them. Just can't find Parents Vaclov and Anna and the three youngest children. THanks for helping.

On his death record it has Joseph Vondracek as his father and Anna Zatak as his mother. John and Marie moved to St. Joe, Michigan where he died in 1907. Marie moved to the Watervliet area and died there in 1931. They had 7 children. Looking for any information about siblings or parents of either John or Marie. Vondracek was changed to Vandrasek by John and Marie.

Prague archive http://www.ahmp.cz/eng/index.html
All of its registry books are digitalized http://www.ahmp.cz/eng/index.html?wstyle=2&catalogue=1&a...

You will have to know at least approximately where he was born. There were a lot of churches and each had it´s own books, if you don´t know, you will have to go through one by one.

Yes
My oldest Uncle ,still alive ,has spoken about the
Priest from the village of Lupkiw/Lupkow which is now
in Poland.
The Priest,Father Teodor Hrabets, had 2 sons who went to school in Prague.
One of the sons according to my uncle was maybe an
editor or worked for the newspaper Czeske Slovo maybe
around the 1940s.
I am having trouble with finding records in Poland greek Catholic for the village of Lupkiw/Lupkow. I have written
letters of request and no replies.
This is why I thought maybe I could find out something in
Praha. There may be a family connection.
