Greeting Petra! Yes, I am still researching the Lapice family from Novosedly nad Nežárkou.
Hi! Are you still looking for information about Lapice family? I'm from the Czech Republic and my ancestors were Lapice. I'm very interested in this branch of my family tree, because Lapice is nowadays very rare surname in the CR. I explored records in church books about Lapice family till year 1637. I can send you, what I have. My e-mail is p.a.berankova@gmail.com.

Have a nice day!
Petra B.

I looked for American name Wendel or Wendelin Spivak and American name Albert Spivak.
I would like to know if the name Wendel and name Albert translate to a different name in the Czech Republic.

I would also like to know what the column after Matra called Kinotrove means and what Kinotrove column information indicates.

// digitaltree

Oh, yes, I "know" the Havlenas from the parish records. :) I even go back to Wenceslaus Hawlena (married Zophie, died 1741 in Zahrobi), through their daughter Dorota.

I've pretty much read every single Stich/Mstich entry in the church books and given the tiny area and the fact that the ages and names match up for Stichs who become Mstich, I'm convinced it's the same family. But...still a very strange mutation!

A really clear instance of Mstich is here: http://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/DA?lang=en&menu=3&id=209... image 147. April 22, 1772, the death of Joannes Mstich.

My own direct ancestor's first marriage shows up here: http://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/DA?lang=en&menu=3&id=208... image 137, on Nov 25, 1732 when she marries Jirik Lehecka.

When I go back to the earliest church book in Belcice, (http://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/DA?lang=en&menu=3&id=208..., starting in image 32), nearly all of them show up as Stich, not Mstich:

Vit Mstich and wife Ewa have child Thomas (1682)

Jan Stich and Rosyna have child Mandelena and several others, starting in 1684--Jan is named as a svobodnik, or freeman

Freeman Jirzik Stich (my direct ancestor) starts having children with wife Katerzina Machova on Feb 13, 1698 with child Dorota (image 34). Looks like he and his wife are godparents more than once for Waczlaw Hawlena's children, too.

And they go on from there...

And how interesting that you were able to visit! My grandfather was born in Hvozdany and came to the US when he was five. My husband and I had a chance to visit once, too. At the time I figured we were the first Americans ever to go back there--but maybe all of us sprinkled throughout the world feel this pull to go back there and make the connection. :)

Rose Green hvozdany at hotmail.com
TY all for your help...

Since my first inquiry, I have bought a book on German genealogy words, and the translations of them. And, I do have some Latin education, so I have painstakingly been able to translate the records on my own. After awhile, the Catholic records use the same words, so once I got that, it wasn't quite as difficult.

A year ago I found one of these books I wanted to download. At my son's house in Washington, D.C. it would have taken 8 hours. At my house in Omaha, fairly decent Internet connection, it would have taken 4 hours. At the university, it took 2 hours. And then what I was looking for wasn't in the book.

I haven't tested it yet on my new Mac, but considering how fast the actapublica pictures load on it compared to my PC laptop, it would probably beat that 2 hour mark. In some ways, I wish actapublica would have a download option, though, because for some of those books, there's an entry on every page that I need. Even though the book I downloaded didn't have any of my data, it was nice to be able to just page back and forth in the book.

Your process post is very well written. Perhaps you should make it a separate post with a title that might come up if someone searches the board. Although since you have Vysočina in your subject, maybe that's enough.

Side note: some of my records are from the Zleby area. I ended up finding them in the Praha archives in actapublica. Zleby is not far from Chotebor, so it is worth it to investigate multiple archives.

There is another hurdle and that is simply reading the entries. They frequently used a script that is very hard to read and abbreviations. You will save yourself a lot of work if you find a good translator. I have used a very competent researcher by the name of Iva Steinova. She primarily does research on Jewish geneaology so she does German, Czech and Hebrew into English and knows the research ropes. You might try contacting her at i-e-stein@seznam.cz (She is not related to me although we have the same last name)
Michael Stein

In the surroundings of the village Skopytce are three nearest Jewish cemeteries. One is in Myslkovice, then Tučapy and near Radenín. In Myslkovice (which you can see on the web site www.chewra.com, thanks to Mr. Jaroslav Achab Haidler) are preserved two graves side by side with the name of the family Stein. It means nothing, but maybe it will help ... Photo is attached. Greetings.

Tomb 195-00160 death May 16, 1897, Joseph Stein, granite stone with the inscription: Hier ruht Herr Josef Stein gest.am 16th Mai 1897 Friede Seiner Asche.

Tomb 195-00161 death July 28, 1888, Julie (Jochebed) Stein, Joseph Stein's wife, born 1821, a granite stone with the inscription: Hier ruht in G-tt Frau Julie Stein gest.in 67 Lebensjahre am 28th Juli 1888 Friede Ihrer Asche.
Thinking about the Steins. I know that in the generations prior to IGNATZ Stein (1839-1929)that the Steins lived in a series of villages between Tabor and Trebon. I think it is likely that we have some common ancestors. I wonder if you have DNA on your Stein lineage? My DNA was a bit "odd" haplogroup R1b,M343 (sub clade R1b1c, V88) suggesting that my ancestors were converts to Judiasm rather than migrates from the Middle East.

My great grandfather was Ignatz (also known as Israel and Hynek) Stein. (b.1839, d. 1929) He lived in Trebon, in Southern Bohemia. (Not far from Tabor) He was married to Aloisa (Ehrlich) Stein and they had 9 children. 7 emigrated to the US and two died in the holocaust. The Stein family lived in a series of towns between Tabor and Trebon from at least the early 1700s.

My father Stanislaw Danek was a son of Jan Danek and Joanna Danek (Adamek) from Zembrzyce. I never researched this, but from family stories I suspect that Michal Danek born August 1, 1883 could be my my grandfather's father.

There is also a story in my family about a great uncle who emigrated to USA and came back to retire in Zembrzyce, I don't know his name, but I have seen golden $2.5 coins supposedly brought by this person to Zembrzyce. I live in San Francisco Bay Area, and I visit Poland, including Zembrzyce, roughly every other year. I would be greatful if somebody could add any information to this thread. Also, I may be able to answer some questions regarding our family, if you post them on this board.

Thank you,
Maciej Danek

I'm looking for any information on my family who were from Udraz, Czech Republic. My ancestors' names were Frantisek Beránek (b. 1858), Rosalie Skala Beránek (b. 1860), and their parents' names were Jan & Kateriny Beránek and Josef & Marie Skala. Any info on any of these people, their descendants, or people of their surnames still living in the Cz.Rep. would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking for any information on a married couple, Johann Schneider & wife Rosalia (maiden name unknown), who were born in Bohemia in about 1845, were married in the Catholic Church, and immigrated from Budweis to the U.S., most probably 1878-1882. They were childless, but they brought with them to the U.S. a nephew, Joseph Albert Schneider, b. 1872. Johann and Rosalia settled in Northumberland, PA, where he worked for a mining operation. Nephew Joseph (my gg-grandfather) eventually married Anna M. Kunkle from Johnstown, PA. Thanks in advance for any info.

I find no Platenik's in Strakonice for the time frame you need. Probably a small town nearby.
On Karel's immigration he states he is going to his brother Vincenc Platenik and Vincenc's parents per LDS are Vincenc Platenik and Katerina Kunzl/Kuncl.
There is a 1898 marriage of a FR. Platenik in Strakonice and his father is from Drazejova.
Jean
