In 1921, Ludmila, age 17, and Maria, age 24, Sarmanova arrived in America from Prilopcek, Moravian province, destined for Chicago, Illinois, presumably to live with a relative whose last name was Cerny. (Documents indicate that their father's name was Ferdinand Sharman(n), and, as daughters, they took the feminine ending -ova to the surname.) They worked as domestics in wealthy North Shore homes. Ludmila's name was Americanized to Lillian Sharman; she ultimately married Erik Christensson, moved to California, and had a son -- my husband.
Apparently, the two sisters had some kind of argument, and severed all ties. Although we know very little about this long-lost Aunt Maria, we have some idea that she married and lived in Wisconsin during the 1930s.
We have been searching for family members for a long time. Please post a reply.
