Sorry for taking a few years to answer your post, but it has been a long time since I last checked this message board. I do not know whether the legend about the baker is right or wrong, but with a name such as ours (which can be converted into "sweet (suess) mehl (flour)" in German), it does make a lot of sense. However, the first ancestor that we have found in Goriza, appeared in that same century, but is listed as a "mauer" (mason), not a "baker".
