Surnames: DURY, DURA
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone out there might know the origin of DURY and DURA. My late grandfather, John DURY, was born in Austria around 1914. His father's name was Ion DURA. They both immigrated to Montreal, Canada some years later. I imagine the names have been changed around some, as was usual back then. I am feeling very confused and frustrated, as I can't seem to find anything on the above names and their origin. My late grandfather used to tell the family that he was born in Romania, but we later found his birth certificate, which said Austria. I have no idea as to why he would say he was born in one place and not another! =)
Is it possible that DURY and DURA could be Slovakian or German? Does anyone else have these names in their family tree? Would love to hear from anyone with *any* info on these names whatsoever!

Thank you!
