Hi Jana,
Just adding to what Carson found, on Trove newspapers website, this:
Sydney Morning Herald, Thursday 20 March 1902,
DISTRICT COURT.
(Before Judge Backhouse.)
ACTION FOR ALLEGED SLANDER.
Starcevich v. Tresnan.
Mr. M. J. Brown, appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. D. Levy for the defendant. This was an action brought by Emma Starcevich, of Woolloomooloo- street, against Elizabeth Tresnan, of Crown-street, Sydney, for, it was alleged, falsely and maliciously using words, on January 27 last, charging the plaintiff with great cruelty to a child in her care and control. The plaintiff claimed £200 damages.
The defendant pleaded not guilty, and denied having used the words imputed to her. A considerable volume of evidence was taken, including that of the child, a young girl, the granddaughter of the plaintiff, who stated that her grandmother never ill-treated her.
The case stands part heard.
