It looks like I was on the right track with the Wanowitz in Poland. I just got this follow up e mail from this same guy. It gets very confusing doesnt it?
"Neil, I made a terrible blunder, for which I apologize. I don't know how I did something so stupid. The Wanowitz I told you about, the one located in today's Czech Repulbic and now known by the Czech name Vanovice, was NOT located in the small pre-1919 Austrian province of Austrian Silesia, but rather, it is located in the southern part of what was until 1918 the Austrian province of MORAVIA. So if your source indicates that Franz Joseph Ludwig was born in Wanowitz in SILESIA, then you were right, that Wanowitz was located in Prussian Silesia in Germany and is located in Poland today and is known by the Polish name Wojnowice. It is located near the city of Leobschütz -- or if written without the "Umlaut" (two dots) over the "u", Leobschuetz -- now known by the Polish name Glubczyce. Sorry for the confusion!
What I told you about Niesky is, however, correct.
