I need all the help I can get with this one. He married an Emma Mabbott in Australia 29th March 1892 under the name of Max Wilhelm Dappanger in Bowenfels Portland NSW Australia. I have their marriage certificate and it does not state on it at all his birthplace, its been left blank unfortunately. All it has is his occupation, Engine Driver.... sometime after this he has changed his name to William Green..
I just need some help, guidance of where to look from here.

thank you Dianne

You're welcome.
Here in the states we have state marriage application which most of the time has place of birth. Did they get married in a church? How about children's baptismal record?
using www.surnamenavigator.org no DAPANGER, DUPANGER, DAPENGER, DUPENGER, DAPPANGER so no such surname exist or spelling is incorrect on the document you have.
How about DUPINGER: Reipoltskirchen, Pfalz, Bayern At least a close to your spelling.

maybe this name :o) which is italian or istria-romanian.
i think more the last......
some to find at Ellisisland and stated is Trieste which is close to Istria. both belonged to the former austrian-hungarian empire known as crownland "Küstenland". Trieste was the only one and famous habour of the empire and belonges now to Italy > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trieste
Istria is now croatian.
also a Giovanni(=John) and Michele (=Michael)from Istria are listed. maybe from same family?
Depangher at Ellisisland:

found out, that "Capodistria"- place where are from Giovanni and Michele Depangher came - means the place Koper now Slovenia, which is very close to Trieste´s south, but is also in Istria and was also the former Küstenland-area of the austrian empire Slovenia has only a small part at coast there. the rest of of the peninsula belonges to Croatia.

Dianne,

there were already answers to your request. You probably weren't aware that the message had been moved to the board for Austria-Hungary, where it belongs (there's practically no relation to today's Austria, so this here actually is the wrong place). You've however thwarted that move by posting a new request here ....

The original thread is at http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.ceeurope.histreg.austr...

Hi Tilman.
Am only new to message boards, which one to choose, etc so apologise if I did something wrong. Just trying everything to find this person's family with no success at all. He is on no Immigration lists to Australia I can find, passenger lists etc and yet HE is here.... Starting local and working backward is the only way for me to find anything.

While there are plenty of Depanghers I have found overseas, there is no connection to Max I can find.
Once again apologizing for posting incorrectly.
Dianne
