I am researching our GG grandfather George Washington Harberger born 1792 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA.
Parents believed to be Henry & Susan Mitenberger. I can find no evidence of this. He married Harriet Cobb in 1817 and had one son (believe there was only 1 child) he died 1829 in Pennsylvania. Son George Washington Harberger b/1825 migrated to Australia approx 1851.
Any information would be thankful for.

Emil Helbok born 21 Apr 1891 in Hoechst, Vorarlberg. Immigrated in 1912 went to Wyoming then to Denver , Colorado. That is all that is in the Auswanderer book. You might have luck by sending a request to the Catholic church in Hoechst as they have all your genealogy going back to 1600s. You can also order the all the Hoechst church records from the LDS Famiy history center in your area. You will need to learn about 10 words of German and away you go

I am also researching John George Mathis and Katherine Hellreigel. I found in the 1880 US Federal Census that John George Mathis was listed as George Mathias. I also found Joh Mathis listed as a passenger on the ship Harmonia from Hamburg, Germany to New York. His birthdate was estimated to be 1845 (26 years old in 1871). He was travelling with another Mathis on this trip, Ph Mathis (29 years old in 1871). Does anyone have information on either of these 2, I am proposing brothers?

I don't know whether the Facebook group is still active, but I hope not. I reported illegal activity there when I began to receive death threats from someone in the group. I don't find that sort of thing amusing at all.
Ancestry.com is another group that has amazing information however, it isn't free. I believe that they offer a free trial, though. That's where I have posted all of my information. Many Maryland Geisinger's there.

Good luck! Ron

My 3rd great-grandfather, Franz Frederick Tschütscher, immigrated to the USA from Austria approximately in the mid-1870's. This last name is hard to find, and from what I can find, those who have had that last name came from the Vorarlberg area. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Sarah

I am looking for information on a town that existed in the Austria-Hungarian empire. It was called Lutatniki. My great grandfather listed it on his draft registration card as his birthplace (Lutatniki, Austria). I have had no success finding it on the internet and have come to the conclusion that it no longer exists. I would appreciate any information or leads that anyone can give me. I would love to know where in Austria or in another surrounding country that this town existed so I can one day visit it.

Sandraw,
The original post is so old perhaps the enquirer has disappeared - however I am wondering if the mistake could be because of verbal, rather than documentary evidence? Hohenems is/was Austria (Austro-Hungarian Empire) but it is also almost on the Swiss border in the most westerly Austrian Province, Vorarlberg, and there is a Peiden Bad in Switzerland, not a thousand miles away. People did move around so perhaps he was born in Switzerland but lived most of his life, and died, in Austria(Austro-Hungary) - maybe Mother was Swiss? Another point is that Peiden would sound like Pieden (apple pie!) to English speaking ears which could have motivated someone to write down Pieden instead of Peiden. In the absence of other suggestions, it might be worth considering.

Pieden and Smugens must be misspellings!
no Pieden in former Austria-Hungary. and what do you mean with "Smugens"-cemetery in Hohenems?
there is also a jewish cemetery: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%BCdischer_Friedhof_Hohenem...
Fidel Ganahl is the correct name. He is my great-grandfather, who helped his brother Christian Ganahl start Ganahl Lumber in St. Louis. I am descended from him through Alphonse Ganahl and Paul Ganahl (who was born in St. Louis, but lived most of his life in California).

Susan Lang (Long), married Christian Fermanich. Their daughter Appalonia (Abbie) Fermanich married Owen J. Hughes, Sr. Their daughter, Gertrude L. Hughes is my paternal grandmother.

Do you have any information beyond Wenzl Lang (Wenzel Long)and Marie nee Hamperl (Mary Hamlet)? If not, can you send me the best information you have, so I can try to pick it up from there?

I appreciate your help.
There is some confusion here.

The Wenzel Lang I know was from Prostibor, Bohemia and had one(1)son, and two(2)daughters; Joseph (b-1835), Elizabeth (b-1838), & Susan (b-1842).

Their name was Lang in Bohemia and Joseph changed his name to Long while in Wisconsin. I have their birth records from Prostibor and have visited the villiage. Wenzel, and his wife, Maria, are buried in Clintonville, WI.

It was originally listed as Long. However, her parents were listed as Wenzel Long and Mariah (Mary) Hamperl. I found another site that listed another daughter of Elizabeth Long.

Todd
