I am looking for information about the descendants of Friedrich Schlager (born Niederbayern) who married Barbara Vospel (born Wien) in Altlengbach in 1898. Friedrich was a stone-cutter - I would appreciate any information about quarries in the area of Altlengbach.

Gary,

maybe anybody out there has information on quarries in that area, I don't know any. (Yes, I know one or two, but these are not really close and for cement and gravel production).

Also - you'll probably realize that he could have lived and worked there without a quarry? There were many (are a few) stone cutters, I would guess that only a minority would have(had) a quarry near by. The others were/are working with stone that's getting delivered as huge blocks to their workshops - that's at least what I would think.

My CD-phone-directory has still 2 Schlager entries for Altlengbach. I think writing 2 letters might be worth a try (best to write them in English *and* German).

Tilman

There was a quarry called "Steineckl" in Altlengbach (lower austria) from which the stones for the new cathedral in Linz came (built in 1862-1924)

Thanks for the info about Steineckl. I have a photo which is from that time period of some Steinmetezen standing in front of what could be a memorial or bridge, or perhaps the cathedral. There is not much in view. If you could email me at garyschlager@gmail.com I could send you a copy that perhaps you could identify. Thank you.
