Can anyone help me in locating a town or parish called Auslau or Oslo in Upper Austria. In close proximity to Lintz.
Great grandfather came to America from there in 1888. Immigrations records were supossedly burned. We cannot find the name anywhere. Many thanks

Have you not posted the same question in the past?

As I mentioned at the time, the closest match for you might be the village of St. Oswald bei Haslach, north of Linz near the Czech border.

When you check the Austrian phone directory at www.etb.at you will find that there are quite a few listed Prieschl who live in this St. Oswald, and there is also one Heiss.

Since LDS has films of the duplicate parish records of Upper Austria, why don't you get the right ones and check whether your ancestors are from this St. Oswald?

For the film numbers, go to http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.a... , enter Sanct Oswald as the place name, and follow the leads to the Sanct Oswald (Haslach).

Hi, I think we share the same Preeschl Great Grand parents. My grandmother was Marie Preeschl, daughter of Wenzel and Anna (Heiss) Preeschl. They immigrated here and live first in Minnesota with Anna's brother John and then in Wisconsin. I mostly have my info from a booklet called "Pie Crusts and Promises" by Barbara (Goodman) Moretson. She was my aunt.
I noticed that she wrote in that book that Anna Preeschl said that she came from Oslo. I am having trouble finding that town too. Have you had any luck?
I saw a town called Haslau near Litz and the Czech. border. Maybe that could be the town?
I don't have much info. I would be interested in any info you would like to share.
Thanks,
Georgia (Goodman) Hanna

Good to hear from you. I have not been able to find the town. I have been trying for years. I did write to the mayor of the town you mentioned but have never recieved a reply. I know the borders changed a lot during the war and when Wenzel was naturalized he gave up his allegiance to Germany. I also have a copy of Promises and Piecrust. I have been in contact with most everyone in the family at one time or another.
Plelase stay in contact. I would love to share info.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I thought it would be a longshot reply to your query since it was posted so long ago. I asked my dad about his grandmother Anna Heiss Preeschl. She lived with his parents when he was little. He only remembers that his mother (Marie) always regretted that she sent Anna back to her home in Wisconsin to live after they fought. Apparently Wenzel was very abusive.
My mother recalls Anna Preeschl (the daughter) as being very pretty. Also Bill Preeschl lived with my grandparents for some time.
Which Preeschl are you descended from? Max?
I always thought they were a good looking bunch in the photo taken of the boys in Piecrusts and Promises. One of them, I think it's Max looks alot like my dad. Its the eyes.
