My great grandfather's name was Peter. I'd be interested in hearing more information on the Swetkovich name if you've found anything since these posts were made. Thanks for your time.

The connection must be either in that generation or further back. Harry is a great uncle to my son in law, the brother of his grandmother, Mary Ann Gergits who married John Liebentritt.
Susan, it is a wonderful book! The title is The Community of Fuller Park, Those Were The Days My Friends. copyright by Rudolph M. Unger 1997. Nothing additional. I have a second book, haven't read it yet, but it looks to be Rudy's family history. Will let you know. I inherited my set from my mother. I know my aunt had a set and I'm sure one of my Gergits cousins has them.

I can scan the pages about Gergits' and email them to you...

Maybe Rudy's 2d book will lead me to his family and someone you might contact about getting a copy..

That is looking very likely to be correct, alexandra1784. I found a passenger record for Stephen Jr. going from his Aunt Mary Neubauer's house in Austria to his father Stephen Gergits's house in Chicago. Census records establish some of these relationships, also.

Are you sure the parents of the four Gergits brothers are Steve Gergits and Juliana Neubauer? According to my records their parents are Josef Gergits and Anna Vukovits. They had at least seven children: Stefan (oo Julia Neubauer), Matthias (oo Katharina Neubauer), Peter (oo Katharina Blaskovits), Johann (oo Theresia Neubauer), Josef, Maria and Anna. I'm not related to the Gergits family, but I also have ancestors from the area.

I am not sure either. I have a wonderful book self-published by Rudy Unger. We are related somehow. He says Harry and Eleanor Gergits ran a bar on 45th/Princeton but doesn't say what years, and they were not related to my family. He also says the Gergits clan from Neuberg was the largest group of immigrants in Fuller Park, the neighborhood most of them lived in.

Hi Susan,
I've found a little more. The four Gergits brothers were Steve (Jr), Joseph, John, and Matthew. Steve married Juliana Neubauer. Joseph, Agnes Marosits. Matthew, Catherine Neubauer, and John married Theresia Neubauer. John and Theresia had two sons, John and Louis. John was a railroad worker, b 1877 d1931. All lived in the Fuller Park area.

The parents of the four brothers were Steve (Sr)and Juliana Neubauer.

And I had Justina in the wrong part of the tree. Steve Jr also had four sons, and Justina. One of these four was my grandfather Matthew.

The fact that Steve Jr named two of his sons after his brothers gets confusing. So do all the Neubauer women they married:)

Seems most of our family worked for the railroads or owned taverns. Josrph was murdered in 1931, gunned Dow in his alley, assumed from bad liquor deals.

Joseph owned the Southside Ballroom, Burgenland meetings were held there as well as social events. I remember going to meetings with my grandmother in the early 1950's. but don't recall much about the ballroom.

I still haven't caught up with my aunt to ask if she recalls John married to rose.

Hope this helps!

George and Catherine Schneider were Wallern people who were reported to emigrate to America. However, in the early days of Family Search, I located some information from another researcher who placed them in Halbturn. Unfortunately, I did not get the name and contact information of the person who was researching, and now, that information is no longer posted.

George was my great-grandmother’s brother. His wife, Catherine, was also a Schneider.

With the help of the Halbturn online civil records, I have been able expand the family of their son Paul.

If anyone can help with more information on this family after they moved to Halbturn, I would appreciate the help.

Attached is a descendant report.
I am working on genealogy for my son-in-law, at his request. John Herman Gerkits, b. 1885, in Guessing, Austria Hungary, came to America in the early 1900s. He may have come as a seasonal worker, returning home and coming back again.

In October 1907, per 1920 census and a passenger record, he arrived on the SS "Kronprinz Wilhelm," at age 19, with Rosa Brunner, 16, b. Neuberg, going to Nazareth, PA, to her father, also traveling with another man; or in 1903 per 1930 census. Eventually they settled in Chicago. Could this John Gerkits be a brother to Mathias Gergits?

Dax & Deutsch Relatives in Mogersdorf

Looking for information on the parents of Rosalie and Josefa Deutsch (or Deutsche) who lived and died in Mogersdorf. Their father may have been Mikhail Deutsch. Rosalie and Josef had 3 children (Rose, Emme & Anna). Rosalie died and Josef married her sister Josefa and they had three more children (Josef, Resi & Theo). I believe Josef's parents were Franz Dax & Julianna Sommer, pic attached. I believe Resi and her husband Felix were still living in Mogersdorf area in the 1990s but have passed away since.
