I apparently misremembered notations. In checking back on my copies it was the notation "jobbágy," which I believe means bondsman, serf, or commoner, that was often added during the mid-1800s.

Also, thanks for the warning about the dictionary site. Neither my Norton nor Macafee virus detected reported any problems!

Yes, the "jobbágy" is bondsman and was not free person. The zsellér was mostly free, but sometimes poorer like a bondsman :-(
The bondsman system was stopped by the Hungarian Parliament at 1848. The problem was near as same as in the USA, when the niger slaves have been free (in Hungary the word niger has not any wrong meaning, please, understand well). The people, who have been free, could not make anything with their freedom. It was also one cause of the emigrations.
Here are some good and not dangerous dictionaries:

http://startlap.dicfor.com/szotar/hun/eng-hun
http://www.freedict.com/onldict/hun.html

BTW, when a dictionary need the accents, please, accept it. What a great mistake can birth by the negligation of the accents, may I show you an example:
KEREK = circular/round
KERÉK = wheel
KÉREK = I ask something or somebody

Hi Christy,
There is information from Horat Lovo on these films as well as for Nemet Lovo. I ordered these films from the Family History Library (Mormon Church/Latter Day Saints). I ordered them at my local library, paid a small rental fee, and the films were delivered to my library where I use them on their microfilm readers. I can keep them for a period of six weeks and then they must be returned. You can also order them through your local Family History Library and use them there (if you live in an area that has an FHL ).
If you have difficulty locating which films to order, you can contact me at lpehr@sbcglobal.net and I will share the film numbers with you. Hope this helps.
Linda
