William PEEBLES was a 19th century Master Builder on St. Croix. Employed by the government from 1842 - 1900, he was responsible for the construction of the top floor of Government House (Lawaetz, St. Croix: 500 Years, 1991,
pp. 265 -266).
The name Peebles also appears in the history of the Scots-Irish, suggesting that an ancestor of William Peebles may have been from Ireland. Can anyone help on this?
