Does anyone have information regarding James Francis, born Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland in 1832, who appears in the St. Croix censuses of 1860 (age 27, engineer, Prince Quarter, Est. Bog of Allen owned by Hugh McWilliam)& 1880 (48, engineer, West End Quarter, Est. Carlton owned by Robert Skeoch). In 1880 census, he said he had been in St. Croix since 1856, and was married, but no sign of his wife in census. His younger brothers -- David or Davie (appears in census as Davis, 25, apprentice, Prince Quarter, Est. Bog of Allen) & Robert (20, overseer, Prince Quarter, Estate Enfield Green owned by Gen. Oxholm). David and Robert appear in the 1860 census only (they both went to New Zealand abt 1865). There are numerous persons by the name Francis in these censuses, but these three are the only ones who said they were born in Scotland. Very curious to know what became of James Francis.
