Don't know if this is who you are looking for. In the book Turks Island Landfall pg 86 there is a John Good who was the Chairman in Grand Turk in 1798. John Good is mentioned again pg 89 as Chairman of the Board in 1802

My 95-year-old mother-in-law has expressed an interest in learning more about one of her ancestors, whom she believes was governor of Turks and Caicos Islands. However, she doesn't know the person's name or possible date, but it was probably in the early-mid 1800s. So far, I have traced her family in Nova Scotia, Canada back to her grandmother, Isabelle West, who was born in British West Indies around 1855. Isabelle, who later married Donald MacKay of Scotland and then Nova Scotia, Canada, was the daughter of Joseph F. West, born 9 May 1816 in Nova Scotia, Canada, and his wife, Sarah Maria West, born around 1829 in the British West Indies. I think Sarah Maria West's maiden name may have been Good since the 1871 Census of Canada lists a Sophia Good (born around 1794 in British West Indies) living with Joseph and Sarah Maria West and I assume that Sophia was Sarah Maria's mother. I've been unable to track the West or Good families back any further but I think they may be the tie to Turks and Caicos. If I could locate birth records for Isabelle West or Sarah Maria Good and identify Sarah Maria's father, that might help. Any information or suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.

John LEYBOURNE indicate that the ancestry of his line is from Europe. He matches a Lightburn with ancestry from Bermuda. Kit 28286 is a 24/25 match with 3 Driscolls and one Driskill and a 23/25 match with two Driscolls. They are a 23/25 match with 5 Mullins. The Mullins family is associated with County Cork. They likely share direct paternal line ancestry with the O'Driscoll Clan of Baltimore in Southwestern Ireland. A SNP test reveals that he is P37.2+ which confirms that he belongs to Y chromosome subclade I2a (formerly I1b1). This subclade is mostly found in the Balkins and Sardinia. Cullen's Haplogroup Predictor at http://members.bex.net/jtcullen515/haplotest.htm scores a 100?% match with I1b1*-Isles-A that is considered to be indigenous to the British Isles arriving shortly after the last glacial maximum, 8,000 to 12,000 years ago.In 1662-3, John Leybourne emigrated to Bermuda, where it is recorded that he owned Lot #53. He became known as John Lightbourne, and his direct descendants were Joseph I, Joseph II, and Joseph III. The last Joseph, a ship's captain, had 18 children by two wives. His sons Paul and half-brother Benjamin emigrated to Nassau, Bahamas c.1775, and their descendants comprise the two large families of Lightbourns to be found in Nassau today. Known branches of Bahamian and Bermuda Lightbourns are living today in America and Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, and New Zealand.

Nothing found in Hallett book: Early Colonistes of teh Bahamas.
nothing found in Hallett book: 19th Century Church Registers of Bermuda - note: this book does not contain
baptisms/marriages nor burials for this date - only goes to about 1910. So this is not to say it was not Bermuda that he was born in.
Have you tried ancestry.com or the Mormon site: www.familysearch.con.
I guess you found the passenger report from wwwellisisland.org, if not try that.

I saw a posting reply of yours to someone else who was seeking research concerning someone on Turks Island. I was wondering if I could beg of you to look in your books for the name "James Hurlston". I have virtually no information on him or his ancestors, other than that he was born 14 Apr 1913 in British West Indies and he departed for the U.S. on the ship M S Noca June 1923 from East Harbor, Turks Island.

Hello from Bermuda.
All I can tell you is that the records for Turks Island are held in the Bahamas.
The surname 'James' is certainly in Bermuda and if you have further details I can search here for you.
My ancestors too were from Turks Island.......
SPENCER/ADAMS/FRITH/CRISSON and so on.

I am searching for information regarding a George Armit who was born in 1778 in Scotland, was in Ireland in 1793 and then went to the "West Indies" where he died.
I have no further information about him and would like to find out more about him. I do not know if he married.

Isee you are trying to obtain some information on the Lightbourne Family.
My father's name is Kenneth Hilgrove Lightbourne from East Harbour, or Grand Turk, South Caicos. He had three brothers. My father is 91 years old. His brothers name are: Claudius (nickname Claudie), Stanley(nickname Baba-deceased), and James (nickname "Bar"). He had two sisters: Girleen (nickname Neenie-deceased) and Irene. His father's name is James Lightbourne and mother's name is Macietta Harvey Lightbourne(I think that is how you spell it). His birthdate: 24th May, 1921. He was married to Annie Lourie Penn from Lorimers, Middle Caicos. She is now deceased. His family roots go back to Bermuda. Hope this help a bit.

She m. 1884 Charles Vincent Boddie/Body/Boddie. He died 1894 she married Charles Howard Thompson 1897. Looking for any information on her parents John A Durham and Charlotte Lowe. Evelina Melvina born 1857
Benjamin T. 1860 died 1880 in bermuda

4 more children but i do not know their names.
What i read they were from Turks island. I do not know they moved to Bermuda but it was before 1880 one of their daughters was married that year.

If information is found.. I will make a trip to TCI for farther research.

Looking for info on the parents/family of Alpheus Jones born 1822, died 1878, married Eliza Jane Frith. He was from Bermuda,his son Alpehus Jones lived in Turks Island I believe his relatives may have come from England through Bahamas. They may have been Loyalists. He may even have gone to the US and was a planter that later went to one of the islands in Turks.

The Registry of Birth is located in Grand Turk as well as supporting office in Providenciales.

Hi, all data would be located in Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands. There are also some reels of TCI records at the Bahamas Department of Archives in Nassau.

These reels can also be accssed throught the Family Search department of the LDS if there is a chapter in your country.

You could find out if the reels could be sent out to an approved library/site with microfilm apparatus and you could search the records yourself.

I do have some indexes of these reels and I can provide the box numbers (base on DOA in Nassau listings) to expedite your research.

I am advocating that these records be made available here in Providenciales at the TCI Museum or at the TCI National Trust as I want to work on transcribing the indexes at least for easy access for researchers.

I have tried Family search.org website. I don't have any luck locating people from Turks and Cacios on the site. Maybe I am searching on the wrong part of that website.

I am researching my family members who moved to Bermuda from Turks and Caicos. This would have been in 1800 maybe after 1850 but before 1882.

The surname I am researching is “James”.

Here is what I know about the James that came to Bermuda. The father William T. James, wife Agnes ( born 1827 maiden name unknown), daughters Evelina Florence ( born 1852), Hattie( Hester), eldest son Benjamin T. James Jr. ( Born 1860-1880) came to Bermuda. There are 4 other children but I do not have names of them.

I would love to come to Turks and complete the research, if I can at least confirm that some information about them is there about them.

Have you tried contacting Patricia Glinton-Meicholas yet? She can be reached through Guanima Press. She's pretty much the biggest expert on the Glinton family of the Bahamas, so she'd be the natural place to start.

I came across a will for a Benjamin Lightbourn dated 1 jan 1790 on rootsweb that list many Lightbourns that I believe tie into Turk Islands re: salt trade as slave owner. You may try that. Good luck. He has a daugter named frances Darrell listed who is name I am searching as my gr gr grandmother. Are we connected somehow? Good luck. Another resource is the Turks musueum www.tcmuseum.org.

Searching for information on Helena Elene Stuart, maiden name Adams, born in Manchester England in 1928. Somewhere between 1928 and 1946 she ended up in Bermuda. She came to US from Bermuda, already married to Allen James Stuart. Her last permanent residence in Bermuda was in St Davids. Her brother, Arthur Adams (possibly twin brother) was living in St. George's in 1946 as well.
