Hi there

I am also a descendent of Alexander Bailey but through research his marriage record is in Barbados married to Dorothy Jane Holder?
They had six children; Arthur, Kathleen,Catharine,Clara, Alexander Dudley, and Charles Adolphus Bailey.
Through records three of the children were born in Barbados and three in St. Vincent.
Apparently that family of Baileys moved across to St. Vincent sometime after 1834.
I was always told that Clara married a Chapman and moved to Canada but that may have not been accurate. Charles was my great grandfather being the father of my Father's (Everard Bailey) mother - Albertina Bailey.
Maybe we can compare more notes but you are more interested in the Chapman line right?

Regards
Stan

Hi Diana, we have information taken from an interview with my mother, back in the 70's, that Rosalie Pereira was first married to Mr. Nobrigo and had Emily and Ming with him. I have a copy of Rosalie's death certificate and her father's name was Antonio Pereira. It said he was born in 1835 in Portuagal. So your husband is the son of Leonard? So many of the same names were used. Laurel a sibling of my grandfather and Laurel, who married Leonard. I don't know how to go any further on this until my husband comes home and is able to send you the photo we have of Rosalie and Emmanuel taken much later than yours.

valencia90, I'm sorry it has been so long since I last posted here. We have been busy searching for more information for you and ourselves. We know that John and Mary Dabreo came to St. Vincent from Madeira in the 1850s. They had 6 children, John Jr., Anthony, Rose, Augusta, Joseph, and Delphine. Their second son Anthony was born at sea in British international waters. He Married Emily Cheeseman and they had 6 children Edgar, Inez, Laurel, Vincent, William, and Robert. We do know much more, but it is really too hard to post all the information here. Some of this we were told my my husbands grandmother Laurel Dabreo DeFreitas in the 70s and other information we are getting from her children. You can email us at: dld05@hotmail.com

I have a correction to my last post earlier this evening.
After studying the Marriage Certificate of Leondard DeFreitas and Laurel Dabreo I believe Leonard's mothers name to be Rosaline and not Rosalie. Leonard also says his mothers maiden name is Pereira so my original comment about the first husband's name was wrong. We keep asking more questions of my father in law hoping to get something new. We are interested in hearing what you know about you ancesters. You can email me at dld05@hotmail.com and we can talk some more.

Hi Khirvela,
Yes, it is the same family. John and Mary DeFreitas had 6 children, John, Mary, Joseph, Emanuel, Emily and Shandra. Emanuel DeFreitas and Rosalie Pereira had 6 children. John (your grandfather), Leonard (our grandfather) who married Laurel Dabreo, Gladys who married Pedro DeFreitas. Angelina died in early childhood. Irene married Vincent Dabreo (our Laurel's brother). Sylvina married Andrew Hill and lived in New York. We are not sure about Rosalie Pereira's first name, my father in law seems to think it might have been Rosalyn or Rosalind. Also her last name Pereira is probably not her maiden name since she was a widow with a daughter (Emily) when she married Emanuel. Pereira may be her first husbands name. This is a lot of info to process maybe, but we don't know what you know.

Clara Brenetta Bailey is my great grand mother! she married Frederick Ebenezer Chapman in Saint Vincent, she was his third wife. Clara's parents were, Alexander Bailey and Dorothy Ann Moore (As I told by my grandmother, Moore wasnt her real name, she assumed the name of the lady who brought her to Saint Vincent from Scotland).
Frederick Ebenezer Chapman's parents were, Stephen Chapman and Brittania O'Reilly. Stephen Chapman's parents were Sir Frederick Edward Chapman (Governer of Bermuda) and Antoniette Saint Isle.
Hope that helps with your search!

Dear Coralie,

I am an Australian descendant of Major Peter Deshon through his Great grandson Dr Frederick Deshon (Surgeon in Beechworth) whose father was the Rev Henry Deshon (Teighmoth)- also a Dr of Medicine. From my research I see that my side of the Deshon line was a military or medical line. I have a wealth of information about certain descendants of Peter Deshon. You have given me another piece of information about Peter's father - I have been searching for this bit for years now.

If his father was also Peter then I can't quite see how this all connects to the original Huguenot line. Also there is a theory that the line connects to the Deschamps - but in France there was a Deslon around this time. Please wrtie if you want a bit more about parts of the family. Note that the Henry Deshon who went to Queensland was a Government administrator and cousin of Dr Frederick Deshon.

Regards
Janet
Hello Anne
Good news. The IGI have a transcript of the baptisms in St. George parish (which includes Kingstown)and I've found some definite matches here. All baptisms, weddings and burials below were at St. Geaorge parish:

William Cotton had 3 children who survived infancy. He was buried on 26 June 1830 age 69, so was born 1760 to 1761 but I don't know where.

First 2 children were illegitimate sons from Frances Greathead (described as free coloured)but importantly William Cotton's name does appear as father.
1. Andrew Cotton baptised 26 July 1790.
2. Thomas Richard Cotton baptised 10 March 1792.

William Cotton then married Elizabeth Ward in Jan 1793 and had a daugher Elizabeth baptised on 31 May 1795. But morhter was buried on 1 Jan 1795, and daughter buried on 14 July 1795.

William Cotton then married again to a widow Mary Fraser on 10 Dec 1796. Mary's maiden name may have been Abbott.
They had two daughters:
3. Elizabeth Cotton baptised 30 Dec 1799 (she was my gggg grandmother)
4. Susannah Cotton bapt 13 Sept 1800 but buried 21 Nov 1800.
Mother Mary was buried 9 Feb 1801.

My email is grisenjon1@yahoo.co.uk if you want to correspond directly, or ask me to get a photo of any of the above entries in the parish registers (I can send this by email to you).

I am visiting St. Vincent during the second half of September 2009 and will spend a day or two at the archives to confirm these dates and see if there is anything more.
Let me know if there is anything specific I can look up for you.

I'll try to find William's grave, his will and his plantation Gomea.

Regards Jonathan
Thanks for the posting 'mcsquish'. It is good of you to take the time to post a reply.
Very interesting but with the usual mistakes I was led astray when I first started my research by the same type of story.

Which of Clara's and Frederick's children is your grandmother or grandfather? Frederick is my great grandfather, but I have descended from his first wife, Antoinette daSouza.

A cousin and I have done considerable research in the archives of St Vincent in order to verify the rather grand story of titles and high positions. If they exist they must be farther back than we have been able to get to at the moment.

Frederick Chapman's parents were Charles James Chapman and Brittania Reilley according to the records. He was baptised in the anglican church but became a Roman Catholic as an adult.

Charles James Chapman was a humble painter in Kingstown, St Vincent. He and Britannia had seven children that we can trace in the records. The story is that Charles deserted his family and sailed to Trinidad where he died.It seems that he was born out of wedlock and adopted. We cannot get to the bottom of this story.

I have been tracing these people for so long now and will not believe anything unless I see documentary proof. I have been seriously mislead by grand tales. LOL.

If you want, you can reply to me privately at applecross9@bigpond.com and I can put you in touch with other family members with common ancestors. I can also fill you in with other details about Frederick and Britannia etc.
Marcia (in Australia)

My great grandfather was born on 18th May 1870 in the Calliaqua District in the Goverment of St Vincent and the Grenadines.According to his birth certificate his name shown is William Breen was added after Registration of his birth which was 28th May 1870. There is no name given for a father, but his mother's name is Jessy Lewis of Mespo. I don't know if Breen was his surname as my grandmother's maiden name was McDonald. My great grandfather was living in Aberdeen Scotland in 1881 age 11 and then in Glasgow 1891. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction with my puzzle.

Been trying to find George M Searles birth place and family for along time. On the WWII registration card he lists his birthplace as St Vincent. He also had family in
barbados. He went to Boston and married Jessie Salsman -they settled in Brooklyn NY. they had one son Percy Morrell. Percy married Ethel Best -they had 3 children. George S. Jean, Jessie. Percy died young age 30.
George Morrell had a neice named Lil -she married Ted Pierce. George put on the census that he was born in Mass. no record in Mass. On his death cert. it lists his father as William Searles and Mother Matilda Brown. Can anyone help. thank you Grace

I am hoping that you still have this email address, as your post is old. I am taking a long shot, I am at a point where I can't find william Searle(s)married to Matilda Brown or Matilda Oltion? either in Barbados or st Vincent. the name Morrell has been handed down for a few geneations. Geo. & Matilda named their son george Morrell, wondering if maybe Matilda was a Morrell. do you have any information on william, Matilda or George. also George had a neice Lil ?married to Ted Pierce. thanks for any help Grace
