First name 'Pagan'?

Looking for my partners Great Grandmother Pagan Abbott. She had her daughter Rose in 1943 so assume she was born around 1920-ish? She was born in St Kitts and died there in about 1948. I thought she wouldn't be so difficult to trace with such an unusual first name... Does anyone know anything about the name 'Pagan' being used as a forename? or any other examples? Any help is appreciated.

Michaela

That would be great if you could share any more information you have :-) my grandparents were dead before I was born and my father (John) died in 2000 but I have ways wanted to know more about my past. I went to St Kitts for the first time in 2006 and met some of my siblings and extended family which was very interesting!
Romney family in St. Kitts

My family's oral history indicates that my great-great-grandfather, who lived as an adult in Kingston, Jamaica, came from St. Kitts, or at least met his wife there somehow. His name was Ernest Nanton Romney, and he was born around 1855. I can't find any information on his birth or his family origins anywhere--not in Jamaica, and not in St. Kitts. Total mystery.

I know that there was a sugar plantation on St. Kitts owned by the 2nd Earl of Romney, but the earl's family surname was Marchand, not Romney. I'm hypothesizing that my great-great-grandfather's family worked on the plantation (either voluntarily or involuntarily) and took Romney as a last name because of that affiliation. If anyone has any information that might help, please let me know. Thank you!

Hi
I don't know if there are any lists of plantation owners. But if you look on the slave registers you will see names of owners of slaves and their slaves. I've tried looking on various St Kitts websites, but can't find who owned what. My great great grandfather arrived in Australia in 1850s he was a former slave of St Kitts and trying to find any information since before he got to Australia is very difficult.

Dear Larry,

I actually am here in St. Maarten continuing research on my own family. Last year I was in the St. Kitts archives and the RAWLINS family is a prominent name in the listings.

I did digitize some of the archive pagest from my St. Kitts research and I do believe the RAWLINS family is among the frames. Here are the frames I brought back:
http://www.slideshare.net/BishopCDMiller/st-kitts-archives-1...

If you click my profile name and look back to my previous posts last year re: St Kitts archives I believe I put up information how to secure support from the archival department of vital records. The ladies there were very helpful.

I will be researching this week here again in the main archives and I will digitize anything I see of RAWLINS and write you again.

I am sure your surname is in the above link. Just take you time and go carefully through each frame. RAWLINS is among the names.

In the name was so prominent that I remembered asking the archivists who were helping me to tell me who they were...so I dont remember their details other than they were a prominent family in St. Kitts.

Enjoy the link:
http://www.slideshare.net/BishopCDMiller/st-kitts-archives-1...

Blessings,
RevCDMiller

Hi Judy, I am one of the great-great grandchildren of James and Felicia Ross. James and Felicia had 4 children, James, Predeaux, Alma and Charlotte. Charlotte was my great-grandmother. I know Great uncle James has a grand-daughter in Toronto who I chat with quite often. I have posted the family tree up on this site. I also have collected documentation on my few visits to St. Kitts and the National Archives here in Washington DC. Between the historical documents, birth certificates and sharing notes with Hans in St. Kitts I have a very detail reference collection which I would be glad to share with you!

I recall coming across James Henry Manchester and Felicia Ross when reviewing microfilm from Latter Day Saints database. However, I never could make a connection with Manchesters in my genealogy, although I am sure there is one going back far enough - perhaps a generation before John James Manchester. I have placed my Dickinson/Manchester/Mallalieu genealogy database on line: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=dickinson.... Cut and paste this link, if necessary. There are Manchester cousins in the Toronto area, some of which I met many, many years ago as a child. Spoke with one of them on the phone probably about 9 years ago.

Phil Dickinson
If you are interested I have a photograph of Sarah Mary's grave in St Kitts. I would be interested to share info.
I am a first cousin twice removed of Louisa Wynter (Winter). Louisa's mother was a sister of Alice Malina Manchester, who was my great-grandmother married to Richard Samuel Dickinson. I have a Dickinson genealogy posted at rootsweb.com. It is a combined effort by me and Hans Mallalieu, who also is descended from Alice and Richard. I visited Hans and his family in St. Kitts in 2004, at which time I also met some of the St. Kitts Dickinsons. I live in North Carolina.

I somehow found myself on this thread- who knows how. I believe I am a distant cousin to some of you. My great-grandmother is Louisa (as she was known to my family) Wynter. My father also spoke of Thom and Katherine Manchester who were maybe cousins of my grandfather Edgar Oscar Challenger (through marriage??). I think someone (if not done already) should have a family gathering so we can all meet one another. I go to St. Kitts form time to time and got married there. Very cool.

Hello: Herbert and Minnie Boon did not have any children as far as I know. I was born in St. Kitts and left when I was 13. My mother was friendly with Minnie Boon (nee Yearwood). We all( ie our family) went to a "housewarming" lunch at Ottley's Estate which the Boons had bought in the 1940s.Herbert was a senior member of the local Govining Administration/Civil Service. He acted Administrator of the Island if the Administratior was away.I understood that he did alot towards "upgrading" Springfield Cemetery, among other things .
