I was surprised to see the many words that were used to by the US Army in the year 1901 to classify the Porto Rican Regiment by the color of their complexion. Some were; Black, Brown, Dark brown, Light brown, Dark, Fair, Ruddy, White, Light, Mulatto, White dark, Colored light, White ruddy, Dark white, Swarthy, Florid, Very dark, White fair, Colored medium, Colored clear, Fair, Yellow, Sallow, Dark Chestnut, Dusk, Chocolate and Olive dark.
