The James Williams Family

I am trying to locate the family of James Williams from Statia who would have migrated to Bermuda in the late 1800's. He had a ready made family and moved to Bermuda and started another family. If anyone can help me with this please let me know. I think if someone can check the ship logs i Satias coming to Bermuda he should be easy to find.

Bermuda & St.Eustatius & Turks Island - Spencer connection

Hi, I'm researching my ancestors who married and died in Turks Island. My ancestors were: Ethelbert Richard SPENCER & Ophelia Hamilton ADAMS - married 1867 in Turks Island.

I've been told that Ethelbert's father was a sea Capt. by the name of NICHOLAS SPENCER who was killed on his own ship - see account below:

"MELANHOLY OCCURRENCE
By the Dominican sloop Hermiona, from Port Platta, news reached here on Saturday last of the Death of Captain Nicholas Spencer of the Schr. "John Russell", owned here a few months ago, but now belonging to a Mercantile house in Porto Platta. The accounts are as yet uncertain, but no doubt can exist that Capt. S. ha met his end in a most dreadful form. He was found on the morning of Wednesday the 7th inst. if we mistake not, lying on the deck of his vessel with his throat cut, and quite dead, having a razor in his open hand. captain Spencer had just arrived at Porta Plata from St. Thomas: - while at St. Thomas he was very sick of a fever, and was hardly expected to live: but he rallied and was enabled to take his vessel to her owners. As yet, there is no way of ascertaining the cause of his death. Captain S. leaves a widow and a large family of little children to mourn their loss, - and it is needless for us to add, they have the sympathy of the whole community. Capt. S was a native of Bermuda but married here. - Turks Islands Gazette April 21, 1852."

I'm now trying to find the sea captains his widow, believed to possibly be "Adelaide SPENCER nee GRAISBURY". Who married a second time to William Cornelius EVE aka Billy Eve of Turks Island abt. 1845.
I've read in a book recently that the Spencer line could have lived in St. Eustatius.

I have relatives from Haiti with the last name "Timmer". Does the name "Adrien Timmer" (Born est. 1918) or "Joseph Timmer" mean anything to you? "Joseph Timmer" was Adrien's father - Adrien was my grand-father. He had a sister named "Odette Timmer" and two brothers named "Eric Timmer" & "Max Timmer".

Grandma arrived in New York Ellis Island on November 22 1917 @ the age of 11, along with Great Grandma Juliana, both last names were listed in the ships (Caracas) manifest as Timber.

My Grand mother was from St. Eustatius, who came here to the americas in 1917 with her mother, her mother's namw was Julian Timmer, and her name was Florence Timmer. She married my grandfather who's name was Oliver Canwood, (later changed to Conward, by my grandmother)can anyone help me find out more information on them in St. Eustatius?

Its been a long time! I hope you are ok. I am a distant relative of your great great grandmother Francis Bickford Savory (Rose), who I think was my great grandmother`s aunt. Her name was Marion (Marie) Henrietta Savory.
I hope you get this message and that we can link up again! I just recently found out about Fr Michael`s death, which apparently was about 3 or 4 years ago? I had made repeated attempts to contact him, but to no avail. Now I know why, I suppose!

I am hoping that someone can assist me in my search. I am trying to put my family tree together. So far I have traced the family line back to St. Eustatius (Statia). My gggrandmother Felician/Felicie Ann (Martin) DeGraff was born in 1856 on the island of St. Eustatius she married an Ernesto/Anustus DeGraff who was also born in Statia. Some how along the line they settled in the Danish West Indies (known today as St. Thomas, Vigin Island) Can someone please tell me where I can I go to obtain records on birth, marriage and burial? or if shipping records. My Great-Grandfather (Kenneth Leroy Degraff) had three sibblings - Wilford, Eileen & Anthony. I am not sure if his father (Ruffus/Ruford had any siblings)

Do you know if your grandparents had any siblings? My great great granfather was Enestus /Ernest DeGraff he married a felician Thompson the both of them were from St. Eustatius. They relocated to the Virgin Islands. Felician returned to St Eustatius in 1883 and while there she saved birth to my grandmother Louisa.

My great grandfather's name was Kenneth Leroy Degraff. His Father's name was Ruffus/Ruford Degraff and his wife's name was Beatrice E. Ceasar. The were from St. Eustatius but move to Bermuda (i am not sure when).

I don't have Theodore Godet on my tree, but I know we are related. I'm pretty sure we are another branch off that tree.
I'm still putting the pieces together. My Theodore was born in 12/1883.

Quoting Obituaries: "Mermorial Service The Heyliger Family. Concord - Extended family and friends of Theodore and Bertha Heyliger are gathering at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. to honor Heyliger family members who gone before, and to welcome for internment, the ashes of Pauline L. and Victor Heyliger. Both ded in Colorado Springs, Colo. at separate times.
Pauline was school secretary at Concord High School for several years before moving to Colorado where two of her brothers, Vic and Ted, lived. She died in 1989.
Vic spent many happy hours with his brothers and friends playing hockey on Crosby´s Pond located across the road from the family farm on Cambridge Turnpike. He ultimately went on to play prep school, colledge and professional hockey and dedicating his life to coaching and improvinh his quality of his beloved sport. He passed away at home last October at the age of 94. Vic and Pauline shared birthdays exactly one year apart.
The Heyliger family plot is located at 13 Sleepy Hollow Path. For directions call Sleepy Hollow Cemetery at 976-318 3223. The Rev. Dr. John Lombard of Trinitarian Congregational Church will be officiating. All are welcome."

His name was Theodore Godet Heyliger born on August 3, 1854, Died April 3, 1935. Married Isabella Cornelia Hodge [Connie] on 15 March, 1879. Thanks for your response! Hope to hear more from you.

small world. I do not have any record of their children. I am a descendant of child prior to James marrying your Aunt. We are in Bermuda. I believe he came to Bermuda and fathered two children before the wedding. I am looking for ship records of him arriving here. The woman who had the children was also from Statia. The Busby's.

I found records that they ( James and Christinna) moved to the United States, after they wed.

A Jane Elizabeth Schmidt was born in St. Eustatius on 20 Sept. 1869 to John Godfried Schmidt and Jane Margaret
Dorner (Corner) but this child died according to the records on 25 jul 1872.
The mother of Jane Elizabeth Schmidt who married Henry Hassel Johnson on 27 Feb 1888 is Mary Elizabeth Schmidt. No partner given for the mother. According to her death record Jane Elizabeth was born 30 Aug 1862. As there are no civil registries from 1862, guess work starts: It seems that a Maria Elizabeth Schmidt died in St. Eustatius on 8 October 1890 who had been born 21 july 1825. No parents are given for her. A John Reinhart Schmidt, mother Marij Hodge, died
in St. Eustatius on 24 mar 1874, had been born 11 apr 1831. Obviously not married. Maria Elizabeth or Mary Elizabeth Schmidt might not have been married as is also notable from her death registry.
On the other hand, because there was no civil registry, you will have to check church registries (if they exist). Civil registry did not recognize church marriages.

I am researching Marshal family in the Caribbean’s. Are there any Marshall’s that were in the Caribbean’s between 1800’s and 1900’s.

I am a descendent of Adrianna Marshall, my Grandmother. Born around 1850, died (date unknown) in St. Maarten French side. She had eight children: Carrie, George (born: 1897), Arthur (1901), Robert (1904), Abraham (1907), Agnes, Leo and Dory.

Trying to know more about my ancestors. I know that Arthur was born in St. Eustatius, Netherlands Antilles, 1901 and notification of birth was done by Albert Schmidt.

Any help in the research of my ancestors, appreciated.

My grandmother is also duinkerk from statia..Still has a brother living there who ows a store..His name is ruphert.
My grandmother passed away about 7 years ago and she lived on curacao most of her live.

My great-grandfather was William Melville Heyliger married to Melidia Hall around 1860. Apparently my Heyliger family in St. Eustatius is not related to the other Heyliger family mentioned on the the message boards. I'm looking for more info. on my line of Heyligers also spelled Heillegger in some Dutch records. I'm also looking for info on Melida Hall's family.
