not sure if you are still reading this, but I am a Douglas decendant from St. Kitts (Sandy Point, Saint Annes)

Still looking for information on my family there.
Maybe there is a connection?
Charles Agustus Stephens Douglas was my grandfather, He had brothers & sisters born there as well. The names I remember are Elvira,Ethel, George, John, Joseph and Theophilus. Theo owned a house on Old Road and Elvira died in 2009 in St. Kitts.
their mother was an Abednego (?) Jane, I think and their father was named Charles or Zachariah (Zachaiah may have been their grandfather)
The boys left St. Kitts in the early 1900's for Bermuda. The girls stayed on the island. Ethel married a Connor.

Not sure if there is any connection, but my family originated (?) in St. Kitts and also moved on to Bermuda.
While the last name is different, there is a George and a Theophilus in my family. I know that many new generations carried the names of the older family members.
My family names are Douglas and Abednego.
The boys of the family went to Bermuda in the early 1900's to find work and escape the sugar plantaions of the island.

Maybe there is a connection?

I wish I had more information. I just have the name found in documents and it list his name as Alejandro. Someone else suggested that I explore the name Alexis as they may have converted that to Spanish as they did other names. I did see somewhere 2 Alexis Berniers born in St. Barths that could be him. I think Mateo is Italian and it could very well have been his second marriage. The records are scarce and I will probably have to struggle through more church records looking for him. Thanks for responding.

Hello,

I have heard back from your LaPlace descendant. He doesn't have much. He is new to family research so I have been helping him but he would love to share information. His ancestry goes like this: His grandfather was Albert Stone, B: 1922. Albert is the son of Leroy Stone B: 1898-1971 who married Florence LaPlace B: 1902-1975. We think Florence is the daughter of Augustus LaPlace B: 1840 and d: 23 Jul 1880 in St. Kitts. You are correct about the cemetery. When I posted the query I was going from memory. He has photos of the headstones that his Aunt took while on vacation in the Carribbean. She seems to know alot more. I told him to contact his Aunt but he hasn't done that yet. Maybe we should exchange e-mails? mine is kellioremutah@gmail.com.

I will get more from him soon,
Kelli

Dear Arcarrion,

I will gladly assist you as I can. I will need some time however. allow me to say that I have taken a brief look at the large St-Barths to Puerto Rico chart(mostly Ledees) authored by cousin Marcos Ledee-Ortiz. Do you know Marcos? You may know that for a few decades the St-Barths French immigrants married only within the French St-Barths community. Your guy married what appears to be a Spanish heritage women. That may limit my assisting you since I do not see any Berniers on that chart. But I will keep at it. Do you have anything else on him?

Regards,

Charles Loebr in NYC

I have seen many of your posts from various years. I have seen some that you have said you have a lot on the Berniers. My line is Bernier in Guayama. I have found his name in documents but no detail or age. He was Alejandro Bernier from St. Barths and he married a Juliana Mateo in Puerto Rico in the 1840s. I would like to find which Bernier he descended from. If you have any information I would sincerely appreciate it.

Dear Kelli,

I am very interested in the contact that you have made with me having to do with my Laplace great grandparents. I have restored their burial plot three times in the last 15 or so years. Having a contact that knowss of them is very important to me. I have spent more than thirty years on my St.Kitts born mother's Laplace and related families history.

Are you doing genealogy for a Laplace or
related family member?

Regards,

Charles Loeber in NYC

I am seeking information on Augustus La Place, born about 1840. I think he is buried at St. Kitts, in the Stevensville cemetery? Does your La Place family tie into him somehow? His wife's name was Adelaide and they had a daughter named Florence who lived in Pennsylvania. Any info on this family would be great!

Thanks,
Kelli

If so, do you know which one of the Joseph McKoys served and died in WW1? If it was the younger Joseph, do you know what became of his father?

My mother's maiden name is Audain, Grace from St. Thomas. Her father was George E. Audain, Editor of St. Thomas Mail notes. His brother was William Audain, the tailor who had 5 daughters. There are not many Audain's left on the island. I believe that my mother was the last one and she passed away in 2007. I don't recall any mention of Tortola. I have heard of an Audain that migrated to St. Kitts. I hope that this helps.

I can't seem to get any info beyond August,(possibly William August), Choppin, who would have been born in France, in approx. 1794. I believe that he was married to Marie LaBon (or LeBon,) also from France. Do those names ring a bell?

Hi, I am a Powell, though I now carry the name Collins. My Powell family comes mainly from Brown Hill, with some Powells from Cox and Pond Hill in Nevis.
My late father was Albert Edward Powell, My grand father was James "Jemin" Powell , my great grand father was Albert Powell and my great great grand father was known as "Big Man" Powell who lived at Pond Hill. I am trying to trace "Big Man" Powell's first name. The Powells originally came from Wales, possibly from North Wales as there is an estate called North Wales which they owned.
Do any of the names mean anything to you?
Regards,

Dianne
Wow!! It's very interesting to find out that some family member came from St. Kitts. My father in law's name was Ignacio Lacen. His older sister is still alive. I'll check with my brother in law to find out if she can shed some light as to their origins. The Lacens' are very famous in Puerto Rico by Antonio (Tono) Lacen, who was very known because he practiced witchcraft. Tono was my father in law's cousin. Tono lived in Las Cuevas in Loiza. I guess my father in law's father was also named Ignacio Lacen. They called him Cucon!! The Lacens' are highly intelligent and witty. They have a very nice sense of humor, but are known to be stubborn and very outspoken!! Very proud people. Ismael was a judge, Enid was a teacher and so on and so forth!!

My husband's last name is Lacen. He is from Loiza, Puerto Rico. That family is very big. They are scattered all over the island, but their roots go back to Loiza. There are a LOT of them in New York City, yet they are from Loiza, PR. A few years back they started to "edit" the spelling of their last name to: Lassen or Lacend, but they are still the Lacens from Loiza PR. A lady from that family was just sworn as the president of the Lawyers College of Puerto Rico. I would love to hear from them!!!

It was just last year that I found out about the Queeley and Nesbitt connection. A cousin Dr. Burnel S Nisbett is leading the charge to document the Nisbett clan. He has done extensive work so far. I'm sure it would be help if we could compare notes.
