I sent for his baptismal cert and his sons... I should have sent for the marriage... It has taken a long time already from St Catherines.... Maybe because of Sandy.

Thanks a lot.

-Dave

This was approx 8 yrs after emancipation, so the parents might not have been married hence no names...odd that at least the mother's name was not mentioned.

Perhaps the child was given up or the mother died. It was also common for relatives to act on behalf of parents in performing birth registrations.

You could try and find a marriage record for James C Lyon that might list the parents name(s).

Best of luck with your search.
The baptismal record does not show his parents name. Any idea or speculation why this would be?

dblucas@charter.net
David

I'm also doing some family research for Deslandes from Jamaica. I've come across the actual birth record for Ruthann Seraphornia Deslandes, daughter of Ethelred and Theodora Bwodle Deslandes in Foxes River St Andrew. I believe they are the E Deslandes and T Burdle to whom you refer.

It is funny you should touch on this as my family are from Foxes River, Brandon, Hill, St.Andrews, and I am wondering if you are perhaps related to me also.

I am wondering if you are perhaps related to me also and also curious about how much you know about the history of this region.

I've done research on Brandon Hill, and, it seemas as if that parts of it may have been part of The Union Hill Plantation. Still looking. Will look up the given surname later on.
Samuel Thompson

I am looking for any information on Samuel Thompson who came to Jamaica from Manchester England (allegedly to avoid being arrested for debt) sometime in early to mid 19th century. My father said that Samuel was a reverend at the "Bobbet Church" on Old Hope Road in Kingston in the 19th century. He had a son named Percivel Samuel Thompson who is my great grandfather.

Does anyone know about this church?
