Am searching for information and country of origin for Henri Gourges of Kingston, Jamaica. Born 1813 in Kingston.I have a copy of the passenger list of the Brig Wm. Clarke which set sail on January 7, 1854 from Jamaica. My 3rd Great-Grandfather, Henry Gourgues,40 years old,a merchant, and his wife and five children were the only passengers. They left Jamaica (Kingston) to live in New Orleans, arriving January 12, 1854.
They are listed as Creoles. The families they married into were French Catholic. Other Gourgues's sailed from Bordeaux, France to New Orleans in 1876 and 1867, as well as a person listed of British nationality embarking
from Grand Caymon in 1871.
