Bruce,
And..."anyone else interested"...I too have been told that my Henry Morgan..is the descendant of Morgan the pirate...my father told me this..Most of our immedicate realtives come from Iowa..northern Iowa..this is on my father's side..which I'm hoping helps in that he will be more traceable..using the mans...name...
Also, my grandfather and his father's have the same Henry name..back to a William Henry..or Henry William? going back a few more generations..this is why I feel there is a strong posibility of..a connection..however there are many Henry's ..too connected to the name "morgan"..
My grandfather, however is pure Welch..from Wales..another good help...if he wasn't connected then..possibly some other way??
How one taps into the difference...going back...Would like to let you know though..I have searched diligently...reading micro film...books written..old ones ...one specifically dating back to the 1600's ..and before...I find the reading fascinating..I read the whole book on micro film...it took me a good week...to do so..and I took notes as I went..quoting certain passages..for my pleasure...because the story..brings one into the character of Sir Henry Morgan the pirate..there is so much said..if interested...you can email me about this and other research..about the man...I have yet to make a family connection...on paper with him..but I keep trying to do that also!
I do share your enthusasm for Morgan the pirate...and Sir Henry Morgan...the person..the family member..He had some legimate reasons..for going to piracy..especially with the concerns for his country..and for his survival..and the laws of the time...and his trouble at home with his father...he was a bright and witty man in so many ways.."would love to share knowledge and facts..as I search my John Henry Morgan..
thanks,
