I am looking for information on Jean Bertrand Baptiste De La Strange Lapointe. He had large sugar refineries and coffee plantations on the island of Haiti. He and his wife were killed in the uprising on the island and his butler Christoph took over as Govenor of theprovince of San Domingo and was said to have been executed later. Jean had two daughters that were at school in France at the time the uprising started and learned of it while returning home, they continued their journey to an Uncle in the United States.

One of the daughters name was Josephine Bertrand Lapointe born at San Domingo in 1782 and died in Washington DC in 1808.

Any information on this part of my family would be greatly appriciated.

Je fais une collection de noms haïtiens sur la base hors de Avis de décès et annonces publiées dans les journaux. Certains d'entre vous savez peut-être que l'University of Central Florida a analysé les journaux d'Haïti remonte à 1898. Des journaux comme Le Matin, Le Nouveliste, Le Moniteur, etc Les choses, c'est qu'ils n'ont pas tous les journaux à ce jour, spécialement en raison de la destruction naturelle. Mon père m'a finalement donné nécrologique ma grand-mère et il avait tout le journal. Alors il m'a semblé que il peut y avoir d'autres et il serait utile que les informations ont été recueillies et publiées afin que les autres familys dans le papier pourrait avoir accès aussi bien. Alors je vous demande si vous avez un journal qui contient des informations sur les gens de Haïti pour numériser le document soit entier ou juste les nécrologies. Si vous pouviez s'il vous plaît envoyez-moi des informations / analyse de saintgenealogy@gmail.com il serait apprécié. Je vais faire une base de données composée de familys haïtien partout dans le monde basé sur de Avis de décès dans les journaux. s'il vous plaît inclure la date et le nom du journal que je puisse donner aux gens la source de l'information. ok- so he should be from the Pierre Dabady (Dabadie) line.. he was originally from Leogane... My family married into the Dabadie family in the 1740s.

I've used a variety of sources, notary acts, civil act, etc. Where was your great aunt's father Dalice Dabady born? What info do you have on him? Perhaps I can bridge the gap and fill in the holes.

The person that I found information for (name only) is Dalice Dabady. He was my great aunt's father and he was married to Julie Brigitte Midy. What other tools have you used to do your research?

I just informed Mr. Scott that my great great maternal grandfather was according to family lore a merchant from Scotland. There is a cousin and an uncle by the Walter as a surname. Mr. Scott according to the family settled in the Port city of Gonaives. I thought my family was making up this Scotland connection, I thought he was from Jamaica :-). My mother's maiden name is Scott.

Well Mr. Scott you may be in luck my maternal grandfather's last name is Scott, Maurice Scott and we have many men named Walter Scott in the family. I was told by my aunt Gilda Scott that our ancestor was a merchant by the name of Scott from Scotland.

I am familiar with the Dabady (Dabadie) family. Many were from Jacmel but they originally came from Leogane, based on my research. There was a Marie-Catherine Dabadie, who married Jean-Baptiste Delouche (Deslouches) in Leogane and they moved to Jacmel shortly after in the 1740s...

thank you for your reply. I still am no further forward[or back]with my research on Matthew Springer. From his British Military records he was described as "gen de couleur" which I believe means he was the free son of a slave. It also says he was born in Port au Prince.I know he was in Jamaica with the army circa 1799 when his son Michael was born. Michael also joined the British Army as a muscian,and after
operations in the West Indies,America and South Africa he died in Ireland aged 75. I would really love to know more about Matthew [and Michaels mother] but cannot get any info from records office in Haiti. Do you know if Springer is a common surname in the area?

Robert WALTER Scott was born 30 Dec 1843 in Edinburgh to Walter Dalgleish(1800-1852) Scott and Mary Bullock(1809-1858)
He had a younger brother Charles Benjamin b 1848 and an older sister Hannah Carr b 1840
After their parents death they brought themselves up and are found living in Edinburgh in 1861.
In 1868 Charles died and it appears that Walter returned to Scotland in 1869 to settle his brother's affairs. It is at this time that he is described as a merchant and his place of residence as Port au Prince, Haite.
Hannah had moved to Quebec, married, and as far as we know stayed.
There were three other children, a daughter by his first wife, Agnes Dunlop, Jane Dalgleish b 1840 - nothing further known.
And two boys George and George both of whom died before the age of two.
I know quite a bit about W.D. Scott and a little about Hannah but this is all I know of Robert Walter.

Since that time I found some Boutins in different places in Haïti but still looking for the story of this Michel Boutin House.
Depuis ce temps, j'ai trouvé quelques Boutin à Haïti mais je suis toujours à la recherche de l'histoire de cette maison Michel Boutin.
De plus, je recherche un missionnaire qui serait arrivé à Haîti au 18e siècle; on l'appelait Le Père Boutin; il aurait fait venir ses frères et ils ont eu des descendants.....certains sont au Québec....Merci...
