Marie,
Have you had any luck? Was wondering whether you might have run across any crumbs that might be useful to me.
I am looking for info on my gr-grandfather, Solomon Jacob SAMPSON, who was born in 1832 either in Cuba, So. America, or Surinam. He was related in some way to the van Praags. Judah VAN PRAAG and his family were living in Massachusetts at the same time as Solomon (about 1870-1890).
Judah VAN PRAAG was born about 1845 in So. America, he was a merchant, for some time engaged in trade with Cuba. He lived in New York, NY in the late 1860's and his 1st two children were born there. His father was born in Holland, but his mother and her parents were born in South America. His mother's name was Juliet, and she was born about 1812. Both Judah VAN PRAAG and Solomon SAMPSON had daughters named Juliette.
Other children of Judah were:
Hellen, Sara, William P., Bessie P., Francis W., Lizzie M.
Juliet VAN PRAAG had at least three children: Samuel, Judah and Sarah.
I've been unable to locate any evidence of any of these people after 1880.

my great-great grandfather was Isaac Lion (or Leon) Van Praag. He went to Curacao about 1822 and married Bethseba Hoheb. They had 2 children, Samuel and Anita (my great-grandmother); they later went to America where Anita married George Ciprico; they later settled in San Francisco, California in the 1850's or 1860's where they lived until they died.
Isaac Van Praag was born in Holland about 1800, but I am not sure who his parents were.
Let me know if this is helpful,
Marie

Thanks for the feedback, Marie. I don't think there is a close connection. The line I am looking for goes thru Suriname, not Curaco. I believe Lion had a son, Samuel, born in New York, before they went to California. I once confused him with a Samuel in my line, also born in NY, but my guy is a little younger.
