Classification: Query
Surnames: Goings, Goins, Wells, Hale, Bartlette
I have a very large family of Goings'. This last name of Goings happened when my Grandmother Shirley Ann Wells Hale Married my Grandfather Albert Goins. My Grandfather always told us about our Native American Heritage, and that our tribe was located in North Dakota and South Carolina. This of course only raised questions, because it could have been 2 different tribes. Both of which took many years to actually be seen as a Native American Tribes. The Tribes being The Lumbee Native Americans. But my Father, Grandfather, and Myself, are very dark skinned which is more characteristic of the Melungeons Native Americans. This was the Tribe that my Grandfather always told us about, he told us that we were Portuguese, African-Tupaya, native from Brazil. And we are from the Tri Racial Mixed Indians from Brazil. Shirley Ann Wells Hale is the daughter of Lillian Margaret Bartlette and Edward C. Wells. My Grandmother Shirley disliked her Native American Heritage with a passion, and so had her married name changed from Goins to Goings. She did it in hopes that our linage would be lost to the generations. But If I can get any more help with my research, I have some more of my family lineage, but nothing before April 22, 1915. Which is when my Great Great Grandmother Lillian Margaret Wells Bartlette was born.
