Re: Senior searching for Fam-Tree
Sir/Madam All of the info you posted is correct. The brothers Jacob I.Senior and Arturo I. Senior qualified at Wisconsin Univ.,USA, and Central Univ of Venezuela, Caracas. Jacob I.Senior married Clara Jessurun in Curacao. Arturo I.Senior married Elvira Parilli in Venezuela. Jacob's wedding was sephardic-jewish, Arturo's Roman Catholic. Clara was of a jewish family whereas Elvira was of an Italian immigrant Catholic family.Oscar , my grandfather was Venezuela born, but left there at the age of 1, went to Curacao and came to Trinidad shortly before his 6th birthday. I am not sure who was practicing Jewish from who was not, but like his uncle Arturo, grandad Oscar married a Catholic French-Creole, Charlotte Pantin;she was Trinidadian though, whereas Elvira was Venezuelan. How do you connect with us here in Trinidad?

Re: Senior searching for Fam-Tree
Sir/Madam Let me fine tune your fairly accurate interrogation. Mendes in Trinidad was legally Mendez daCosta...see the attachment. Jesurun in Trinidad was legally Jessurun. Jacob I.Senior's will and the further sale of parcels of his estate 'LaPuerta' all refer in Deeds, Clara Jessurun Senior. I know that in Curacao it is Jesurun, but I am giving a Trinidad perspective. Your Arthur is the same as Trinidad's Arturo 1. Upon baptism in Venezuela, he used the more spanish form of the same name. Upon his dental diplomate, as well as all legal documentation in Trinidad, particularly the Royal yearly Gazettes of the Governor's office, he is Dr. Arturo Senior, a licenced dentist with the local board

Re: Senior searching for Fam-Tree
Following up on Obadiah Mendes Da Costa. Many sources indicate that he died April 1848 and that his wife Eliza, nee Mendes Da Costa, survived until 1897.
However I have just found in an online version of the Occident and American Jewish Advocate, Vol. VI, No. 6, Elul 5608, September 1848 the following obituary:
Died, at the island of Curaçoa, on the 10th of June, Mrs. Eliza Brandon Da Costa, wife of Mr. O. M. Da Costa, of the above island, and daughter of Mr. Jacob De Fonseca Brandon, of Hackney, near London, England. Mrs. Da Costa was born on the 28th of February, 1804, and was married in New York at the house of her brother, Mr. Joseph Brandon, on the 25th of December, 1833. She died much regretted by a large circle of friends whom her kindness of heart had gained her, leaving an only daughter, thirteen years old. May her bereaved husband and child meet with the consolation from above which their loss demands.
This suggests that Obadiah was still alive in June of 1848 at least. Can anyone clarify?
I'm also wondering if anyone knows to which branch of the Mendes Da Costa family Obadiah belonged.
