Saludo,

Gracias

Congratulations. You already have the most valuable clue to your father's military history: his dog tags, with all his vital statistics, a wealth of information. His birth data, date and place of birth, parents names, next of kin, blood type, his alien registration (green card) number and date admitted to the US, medical and military service history, last address, etc, etc, are all on record and available to you as his daughter.

Go to: http://www.military.com/benefits/records-and-forms/requestin...

Good luck!

Hi there,

You mention a "DelValle" brother moving to "another island" in the Americas -in that case you are certainly talking about Puerto Rico. There are several people holding this last name, some of them famous, like Architect & artist Rafael DelValle, and Boxer Joe Valle, both from Aguadilla, PR.

My grandfather was Juan Pagan DelValle. He was born in "Cuesta Vieja" Aguadilla, I believe on 1892. There are several "Valle" and "DelValle" in the Aguadilla - Isabela, Puerto Rico area. My granddad's family were composed of influential merchants, who had several schooners or ships to trade with (then) Danish West Indies -or US Virgin Islands- and the Dominican Republic. I believe I am related to the "DelValle" merchants on Saint Thomas, USVI. There were also "DelValle" opposite to Saint Thomas, in the East coast of Puerto Rico, I believe in the coast town of Naguabo, which I believe had the main port of trade with the USVI -even though small by today's standards, and currently abandoned.

Originally, the Spanish "Pagan" last name is not, it is Italian, from Genoa, introduced to Valencia and Murcia by some knights originally arrived to help the Spanish get rid of the Moorish, then given priviledged posts in those Spanish regions. The Pagan name is as old in Puerto Rico as its European colonization. The 1st Treasurer of its 2nd Spanish settlement, the Village of San German, was Pagan, that in the early 1540s if my memory doesn't fail me.

He had children by "Maria Josefa Perez Guerra" and "Elodia Josefa Perez Guerra". This information comes from "Familias Dominicanas, by Carlos Blanco" and Catholic Church Records of Santo Domingo, DC on FamilySearch.org. I can find no birth or marriage records on either name.

Can anyone provide information on these two (or perhaps one) women?

I haven't tried any of the other providers like 23andme or FamilyTreeDNA, but the service from AncestryDNA was quite fast and my results were sort of in line of what I was expecting. So, in my opinion I think they're worth it. It only took them 10 days to process the sample once they received it, but overall it took about a month from ordering the kit to receiving the results.

- Adrian

Hey Ana,

Interesting results, you also have a similar percentage of uncertain which seems to be much larger than what most people get. I'm currently researching Tavarez, Tineo, Estrella, Adames, Rodriguez, and one that my family cannot settle on a spelling: Buvier or possibly Burdier, but the way they pronounce it indicates there's a "v" instead of an "rd". Most of my family comes from the Cibao or the Northern region of the Dominican Republic.

- Adrian Rodriguez

What surnames are you researching in DR.

My results:

Southern European 30%
West African 27%
Scandinavian 14%
Eastern European 10%
Native North American 6%
Uncertain 13%

Ana

I recently received my AncestryDNA results and I'm wondering if there are any Dominican out there that have received similar results? The most surprising thing about my results has to be the 15% Scandinavian.

Hace poco recibí mis resultados de AncestryDNA y quiero saber si hay algún Dominicano que has recibido resultados similares? Lo que mes sorprende mas de mis resultados tiene que ser el 15% Escandinavo.

- Adrian Rodriguez

Hi, my name is Angela Padilla and we are related. My father was from San Jose de las Matas.
I saw your pictures of Joaquin and I recognized him. He was my second cousin but our families were very close.
I haven't seen them in a while but they were very dear to our family. I was able to see Charo here in United States about 10 years ago. Please, say hi to Diosa, Milena, Hermes, Martha and all the others.
Look for my tree and you will find some information. I'll be happy to share more information I have of our family.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Angela Padilla
I'm Reyson's son, I just came across this post by mistake and it was such a pleasent surprise to read it! My father is very much alive and living in Santo Domingo, I talked to him just a few seconds ago and told him about this post! He remembers you as one of his best friends back in Ontario, he told me your family were some kind of owners of a complex called Rice (or Rise..) Lakes! He told me to give you his phone numbre in DR so you could get in touch with him! I sure hope you get this message! He thanks you from the bottom of his heart and also mentioned another friend, Anthony Grey, you might remember him also! And you were completely right, he's 70 years old now! Thanks for this, and I hope you get this!

Hi Claudio, I too am looking for my George family history and I am having a difficult time. However, I do not have the name Claudio George in any of my documents. The George family apparently did come from Virgin Gorda. Any info, I will share with you. Keep me posted on anything you may have for George family.

Thanks,
Myrna George
