I am closely related to several of these surnames. My family tree goes back as far as anyone can remember to Turkey, then Camaguey Cuba, now South Florida, including the children and grand children of a Sephardic rabbi from Turkey and Cuba. I doubt there is anyone still living who can recount a history of the time in Turkey. Please let me know if you would like to discuss further.

i am searching for a book on a Cuban who was one of the owner of the casa del first mayorazgo Anton Recio, calle obispo, in Cuba, at the end of the 19è c. The house is an old andalous mudejar style, so the family could be originaly from andalousie. Do you know something on your family'origin in Spain. Thank you.

Hi, I know its been a while since this last post, but I wanted to know more about my ancestors. My fathers last name was Laffita. He passed away 12 years ago and I wanted to know more about were he came from. He was born in 1948 in Cuba a place called Baracoa. His fathers name was Ramon Perez Laffita and his mothers name was Odorica Laffita. He would always tell me that his last name was french never believed him (lol) now I know that he was telling the truth. I know that you have been doing your family tree and its been a while since you left this message, maybe by now your tree is complete and can help me figure out some missing pieces with mine. Who knows maybe we are related. Hope to hear from you.

Hola no se si van a recibir este mensaje, pero estaba buscando el apellido de mi papa que falleció hace 12 anos y quería saber un poco mas de la historia de su familia. El se llamaba Angel Luis Peres Laffita de Baracoa, Cuba. El papa de el se llamaba Ramon Perez Laffita y la mama era Odorica laffita. Tiene todavia familia en Cuba. Los hermanos son Adalberto y Alfredo Perez Laffita. No tenemos comunicación con los hermanos de el y quisiera saber un poco mas de su familia pasada. Yo vivo en Miami, Fl endonde en vino a los 18 anos en el ano 1968. Si me pudiera dar un poco mas de información de mi papa se lo agradecería. tengo hecho un arbol del apellido Regincós, en el me sale:
Elias (Jose Gines) Regincós Oliart, nacido en Torroella de Montgri, el 10 Mayo de 1842.
El segundo apellido no coincide, pero por años creo que si que podría ser el mismo Elias.

Would you happen to know Earnest's father's name? I have an Earnest Levy in my family tree. My family is from Jamaica and I recently learned that several of my family members went to Cuba. The information that I have is that Earnest Levy had a twin named Clinton and their father's name was Everill or "Punce". Does this sound at all familiar to you?

This is wonderful, the first nibble on my line since forever. My great-grandfather was the Andres who married Puig in your account. I have not had any luck at all tracing the French ancestors, I was looking in Nantes where there were at least one other Cassard family who ended up in St. Domingue, though I haven't been able to latch onto it. Some of them went directly from St. D. to New Orleans and ended up in Baltimore. My Andres was born in Santiago de Cuba and emigrated to New York. If you like, email me privately and I will send you all the info I have, in an FTM report. It's possible that your Nice connection is for Ysabel Grimaldi, not the Cassard line. My ancestor was Rosa Cassard, born in Santiago de Cuba, daughter of Andres Cassard and Ysabel Grimaldi, who according to my information, came from Nice via St. Domingue. Her siblings were Luisa (married to Giraudy from Nice), Isabel (married to Bavastro from Italy), Nicolasa (married to Reina from Santiago) and probably Andres (married to Puig). I received this from a cousin who passed, so I'm still filling in the dates. Rosa married Santiago Vincent de Bouchardel from Bordeaux, their daughter Maria Ana married Zenon Pacaud y Piquero de la Piquerie, their daughter married Jose Pallejá y Balcells from Torregona, Cataluña, parents of my great grandfather Jose Cristobal Pelleyá. If anyone can fill in the blanks on the French lineage, I would appreciate it.

My great great grandmother Pilar Divino y Casanova was born in Bahia Honda in 1867 prior to moving to Havana. Pilar was apparently from an affluent family in Bahia Honda but was "disowned" when she married out of her class to my great great grandfather named Jose Figueroa Feliu.

Not sure if it's a longshot, but if you had any information about the Divino/Casanova family, I would love to hear about it!

Leonor Sol González es hija de Héctor Sol y Milagro González. Héctor a su vez es hijo de Jacinto Antonio Sol y Leonor Méndez. Jacinto es hijo de Justo Sol Buitrago y Amalia Sol. El apellido originalmente era del Sol, ya que los padres de Justo eran Manuel del Sol y Gertrudis Guerrero. His son moves to Haiti and Cuba and dies at Matanzas.

My father was born in Havana, Cuba - Angel Gabriel Viada. I am one of six daughters born to him and our mother here in the states. My grand mother's name was Carmen Diag and my grand father's name was Angel Viada both of Havana. We are told we are of the Barcelona Viadas.
We grew up in upstate New York. As we grew up we are living all over the states- Connecticut, Maine, Georgia, Texas, Illinois and Michigan. Any connections?

I was born Bayamo, my father was Rafael Antonio Fonseca Moran son of Rosa Moran Ladron de Guevara from Santiago de Cuba or Contramaestre and she had a brother I think his name was Juan.
I think my great grandfather Antonio Moran came from Spain and was a soldier "Quinto espanol" before marrying a Cuban my great grandmother.

I don't know if this means anything but my fathers great grandmother was rosario moreno and he has relatives with the name cejo rodriquez. Rosario was from the canary islands and moved to cuba with camilo cejo.

My Great Great Grandfather Guillermo Sanguily was born in Cuba in 1844. I have found a Baptism record stating
"a child who was born four months ago, son of an unknown father and from Ms Maria Garritte, not express the naturalness of the mother, of this parish. Maternal grandparents, Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Catalina Rooney, in whose child I exercised the Sacred Ceremonies and prayers, and I put on name Guillermo, José, his godfather was Mr. Guillermo Mordoch, having had in his arms and to his name the second Mr. José A. de Perozo, who warned of the spiritual"
There was an error with the Grandparents, they were Mr Thomas Garritte & Catherine Garritte (born Rooney).
All other records for Guillermo (William) have his surname as Sanguily.
Does the church list the father as "unknown" in any other circumstances other than the obvious?
Apparently both Mary garritte and Julio Sanguily (Jules) were both in the same area in United Kingdom according to the 1841 UK Census. They did have another child (Female) before William but this child died prematurely? and after William in 1844 they had two other boys Julio Sanguily (1846) & Manuel Sanguily(1848)

I'm looking for info on my great great great great grandparents Maria Antonia Gomez and Antonio Suarez. Maria was born in Guanacaje and Antonio in Guayabal. I think those two places are old names for area in Artemisa. I don't have the date of birth for Maria and Antonio, but their daughter was born in 1846. Maria parents are Francisco Gomez and Francisca Paez. Antonio parents are Miguel Suarez and Maria del Pillar Quintana.
