My father, Laurentino Sotolongo(1913-1970), was born in Itabo, Matanzas, and, by all accounts, led a quite colorful life in Cuba. Among other things, he was a musician, boxer, merchant seaman and barber. It was this last profession that he pursued when he emigrated to the United States in the late 1930's. Some of his clients over the years included prominent musicians and boxers including Machito, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, Vicentico Valdez, Nino Valdez and Kid Gavilan. His father, Pedro Sotolongo Cruz(1867-1926) and mother,Dionisia Smith Menendez(1894-1952), were also born in Matanzas. It is possible that Pedro's father, Juan Sotolongo, may have immigrated from Spain in the early 1800's.The Sotolongo family may have also lived in Camaguey (La Esmeralda??) in the 1920's or 30's. That's all I have, and I am seeking information and/or advice on which direction to go to learn more about my family roots.

My father's family is from Santiago De Cuba. My last name is Freire. My great grandfather's name was Francisco Freire, he was originally from Galicia, Spain. His parents were Jose Freire and Josefa Perez. Jose had 4 siblings: Jose, Pilar, Encarnacion and Antonio.

My mother's name is Edenia Cristina Arencibia Rosado, daughter to Pedro Pablo Arencibia and Leonila Anatasia Rosado~My maternal grandmother's parent's: Maria Luisa Sotolongo married to Octavio Gonzales Marin. My mother was born and raised in Camaguey. Do you recognize any names?

my grandmother's father was felipe gonzales and her grandfather was octavio gonzales or vice a versa....my grandmother is zorida gonzales she was some siblings ..only one of whom i know.name jorge

My Grandfather had a ranch in Perico.His name is Froilan Felipe Sotolongo I know that it is located in the province of Matanzas. I wonder if there is any relation?

I know there is a Freire branch on my paternal grandmother's side her name was Josefa Canle Guitian and she died in 1924 at 39. She was from Soniero, Olerios La Coruna I'm not sure if we are related wish I could help you more.. She married Jose Castro Barral from Olerios and had 4 children
