What is the nearest cemetery to 1118 70 Street, Marianao, Havana? Where are the records kept and is there any public access?

In greater Habana, people are buried in the Cementerio Colon (Columbus Cemetery). The records are kept at the cemetery office and in general are in very bad shape (no index). Access is in person only.
There is no cemetery in Marianao.

I stand corrected. There is a cemetery in the barrio of La Lisa, part of the municipality of Marianao, but I doubt if a person of the standing of Mr. Santa Cruz would have been burried there. There is also a Chinese cemetery in Habana where I also doubt he would have been burried. There is also a cemetery in Guanabacoa and another in Guanabo, but both are east of the city of Habana and nowhere near the municipality of Marianao, which is west of the city. My bet is on the Cementerio Colon which is the main cemetery for the city of Habana. It is located at Zapata & 12 in the Vedado section of Habana. The phone number for their administrative office (including country code) is +53-7-3-6513 and +53-7-32-1050. The switchboard number is +53-7-3-4196. I would not waste my time calling, however, since I have heard that there is no master index of the people buried at the cemetery. The only data available are listings (in a card file) of who is buried in each tomb, but you must first know the location of the tomb and you must go to the office in person to get the information.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed the information you have provided, it has been a tremendous help, even if I can't pursue it any further. Could you look in the directory for the name Domingo Brito or Faye Brito, Faye was Marie's sister, and Marie was married to Walfredo Santa Cruz. Faye also married a Cuban. Do you think writing to the house in Cuba, I might get someone who knew the Santa Cruzes? Hopefully someday I will be able to find and visit my GGrandmother's grave..
Thanks again so much.

You have provided some useful information. My Grandfather passaed away unexpecteclt June 1966 and we could not take the body back to Manzanillo to the familt crypt. Jose Emilio Ros Romagosa was buried in the Romagosa family mouseleum. I was eight and will not forget that day. There is something inside me that yearns to visit him but there are no maps that even paoint out where the Romagosa Family Crypt is located on the plans. Its like looking for a needle in a haystack. I have seen a few plans but they are so destroyed by poor record keeping and the elements. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Francisco I. Garcia Ros
