My gt. grandfather`s brother, Alexander, born in
Scotland, died in Havana (according to an addition to his parents` gravestone) on 17th September 1861. All I know about him, apart from his wife and children`s names, which are not relevant in this case, is that he was a Ships Master (presumably a Scottish or
English ship, but whether
Royal Navy or
Merchant Navy I am unaware, as I also do not know the name of the ship or ships he sailed on). I have always had the, possibly mistaken, impression that his death may have been due to a shipwreck, but since starting on this offshoot to my family tree I realise that this may not be the case. I would be pleased if anyone could shed some light on this for me, or possibly point me in another direction to try. In particular I would like to find out what actually caused his death and where he was buried - I assume in Havana somewhere.
Many thanks
Gwenda
