Hello,

I was looking through the postings and saw the name Jomarron. I remembered seeing it in the info that I have on one of my family lines: Gonzalez de Rivera. If you are sure your family is from Holguin in Oriente, then I think I found the progenitor of your Jomarron line in Cuba! The info that I have comes from a genealogical study of the Gonzalez de Rivera line, a book written by my Great-Great-Grandfather Diego Antonio de Avila y Delmonte in the 1860s. I only have information pre-1860 and back to about the late 1500s on this family name. Here's the info:

LUIS JOMARRON Y MARTINEZ was born 1771 in France. He married MARIA DEL ROSARIO DE LA CRUZ Y SERRANO 1814, daughter of JOSE DE LA CRUZ E INFANTE and FRANCISCA SERRANO Y Gonzalez DE Rivera. She was born 1790. Maria married for a second time in 1829 which means that Luis died before that date.

Children of LUIS JOMARRON Y MARTINEZ and MARIA DE LA CRUZ Y SERRANO are:

i. LUIS MARIA JOMARRON Y DE LA CRUZ married to ISABEL MARIA DE Avila Y OCHOA

ii. ESTEBAN JOMARRON Y DE LA CRUZ married to ANTONIA MARIA GARCEL

iii. MANUEL TRINIDAD JOMARRON Y DE LA CRUZ married to LUISA OSORIO DE LOS REYES Y DE LA PENA

iv. FELIX JOMARRON Y DE LA CRUZ married to MARIA DE LA CONCEPCION HABAS Y DE AGUILERA

v. JULIA JOMARRON Y DE LA CRUZ married to ANTONIO MARIA VILLAREAL, born in Bayamo, Oriente, Cuba.

vi. JOSE ONOFRE WENCESLAO JOMARRON Y DE LA CRUZ, born in 1815 and died after 1839; married to BARBARA DE LOS REYES Y OCHOA

That's all the information I have. I hope you can tie into it. If you can, please contact me and I will try to find more information on the other names that are mentioned here.

Good luck,

Eddie

Hi Eddie,
I stumbled upon your message via a search on the name Jomarron and can only say that I am stunned!

In your post you named Julia Jomarron y De La Cruz and her husband Antonio Villareal. I have been searching for Quintillio Villareal and his wife Julia Jomarron y De La Cruz of Oriente, for several years. We got the name Quintillio from an old document written in Spanish (not my native language!) and perhaps an error was made.

Could you give me more info on this couple Antonio and Julia? Another researcher has indicated that our line is from a French Jomaron which also ties in with your post.

Quintillio and Julia had at least one child, a son named Luis born about 1853 in Cuba. He died in Key West Florida in 1925.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Denise Villeneuve Villareal

Hi Eddie, I was just looking through this website in hopes of maybe discovering any information about the origins of my last name. I stumbled upon your information and I was wondering if you had anything more. I was always told that my last name was possibly of french origin. My fathers name is Artemio Jomarron and he was born in Cuba(08-02-32), possibly from Oriente. If you have anything I would really appreciate it.

Hi, I wonder if all of you are my distant cousins? My mother was born in Holguin Oriente Cuba, her fathers name is Luis Jomarron. She has been estranged from him since the 40's, and has no idea about any family. Are any of your relatives familiar with the Luis Jomarron of the earlier part of the 1900's? I would love to find out some of my Cuban family heritage. Thanks Tamie

Hi Tamie,
I'm probably your cousin! It is my understanding that all of the Jomarron's from Holguin and the nearby town of Gibara, Cuba are the same family.
My name is Simone Tamayo Proenza I was born in 1961 in New York City to Cuban parents. My mother was 19 when she left Gibara in 1956. He maiden name was Gladys Jomarron Tamayo. She is now 72. Her mother's name was Rosa Jomarron she died in 1962 in New York.
My mother has had an affinity with anything French as long as I can remember. When I asked why? she would say with a smile because I come from a French Bloodline. I never really investigated or even asked her much about her claim to the French heritage. Yet as I became an adult continued to be curious. My mother named me Simone my sister's name is Juliette, my brother name Michele? French...you think??
I was fascinated to find this thread and can not wait to share it with her.
I just stared researhing my lineage and started with my mother's name first.
Keep in touch maybe we can somehow connect the dots and fill in the blanks!

Simone
