My father name is Humberto Cairo and his father name is Rosario Cairo. My grandfather still lives in Cuba and my father resides in Hartford Connecticut in the United States of America. My father and grandfather speak spanish. I speak a little spanish but I speak english fluently. My father came to the U.S.A about 1979. I communicate with both of them. My father will be 49 February 1st and my grandfather just turned 65 December 29th. Me and my younger sister Jahyona Cairo are the first generation born in America. I am 17 years old going on 18 years old and my sister is 15 years old going on 16 years old. I am looking for relatives of My father and my grandfather. My father's mother's name is Juana Beoponda or Beaponda or Biaponda or Bioponda or Vioponda or Viaponda or Veoponda or Veaponda. I'm not sure hoow it's spelled. My father has about 3 sisters and I think 1 or 2 brothers. I would also love to find my grandmother's family. I'm guessing they are still in Cuba but could be in America. Adios!

Surnames: Cairo, Hurtado, Garcia,
Hello Juana,

I am also First Generation Cairo. The Cairo's are my paternal grandmother's line. Her name was Julia Cario-Garcia. Her siblings were: Nena, Julio, Leonila, Eusebia, Matilde, Felicia, and Luis. Her Father's name was Juan Cairo-Hurtado and his Father's name is Fernando Cairo. Juan's other siblings were Felicia, Tranquilino and Emilio.

My father came from Cuba in the late 50's as well as several of my Cairo family is here in the states. We also have family still in Cuba. They are originally from the province of Matanzas in the towns of Juaguey Grande, Colon and Tinjuaro. I believe the Cairo's imigrated from Italy via Spain to Cuba. There are two Cairo's who came in the middle 1800's from Cadiz,Spain to Havana. I haven't been able to make a connection yet. Their names were ManuelCairo and Andres. Also there was a Julio Cairo who came to Havana via New Orleans.

We are probably related via our Cairo lines. It is a very unusual last name so it is highly possible. Where in Cuba is your family from?

Tania (Reyes-Cairo) Hansen

I don't know about your "beoponda" line.

Surnames: Cairo
Hello, I am aware of a Clara de los Dolores Cayro (or Cairo) y Rodríguez de la Parra in early nineteenth century Cuba. She was married to José Mazorra y Toca. Their children appear in the Historia de Familias Cubanas married to prominent families of the period. Given the time period it would seem that Cairos were in Cuba at least as far back as the seventeenth century if not earlier.

Regards,
Carlos Mazorra
