Frances,

Unfortunately neither names appear in my file! Is there anything else that you know of them?

I am descended from María Teresa de Cárdenas y Montalvo, wife of Ignacio Calvo de la Puerta y Herrea; María Teresa was the daughter of Antonio María de Cárdenas y Beitia and María Luisa Montalvo y Calvo de la Puerta; María Luisa was the daughter of Juan Montalvo y O'Farrill and María Antonio Calvo de la Puerta y Peñalver.

The Herrera comes from my great-great-great-grandfather,
Francisco de Cárdenas y Herrera, husband of María Concepción de la Luz y Garzón; son of Nicolás de Cárdenas y Aparicio del Manzano and Teresa Herrera y de la Barrera, daughter of Miguel Antonio Herrera y Pedroso and María Ascención de la Barrera y Espinosa de Contreras.

Nicolás.

Dear Mariana:

I am so pleased to have found yet another relative of mine. As I have already explained to Nicolas de Cardenas, I am doing research on the family names listed and would appreciate any information, anecdotes, history, having to do with same. My great-grandmother was Eloisa (a.k.a. Mignon) Montalvo y Saladrigas, sister of Juanillo Montalvo y Saladrigas. She married Jose Eugenio Suarez-Murias y Cortinas and had my grandfather Octavio Juan Suarez-Murias y Montalvo. Hope to hear from you soon.

Diana

Herrera, Fernandez in Cuba

Dear Ms. Monalvo,

I had a great grandmother, Carmen Herrera, from Spain. She was over 100 when she appeared on the "Queen for a Day" television show, nominated by her daughter, Blanca Aurora Fernandez Herrera (my paternal grandmother), from Santiago de Cuba but living in Havana by then (the 1950s).

Carmen Herrera was rather eccentric, short and slight as I remember her and quite fond of flamenco. Her daughter Blanca seemed to me beautifully Sephardic in her features, fair skin and thick hair.

Do you have any information on the Spanish Herreras who came to Santiago?

Thank you for your research, Ines Diaz-Owen
