We are must likely related since there was only one Sabatier family in that part of the country. I sure like to start building our family history and geniology and maybe some day have a great family re-union. If you live in Miami, you may know my parent Rosa & Eladio Sabatier. Let me know if you know them. I do not know or remember some of my family member outside my immediate family. I came to this country in 1967 and lived in New York, joined the Army in 1972 after graduation from high school and I have been away since. I have a feeling that I am loosing all family history. I heard part of the legend, the part of being a desendent from French pirates or bucaneers. Had not heard about the Colombian conection. My grand father's name was Ramon Sabatier. I can get info from all the Sabatier's that have die in this country from the Social Security Administration it is public information as long as I pay for it. I have not realy started doing any research in great detail. I am willing to share information that I have. Let me know.

My grandfather-Pedro Sabatier, was born in Las Martinas, Cuba in 1912. He was one of 5 or 6 brothers and 2 sisters, I don't have the names in front of me right now, but i can get them. I have a lot of information on my grandfather's immediate family, but not a whole lot on earlier generations. Legend in my family has it, that a good part of Las Martinas was populated by a Colombian woman who had approx. 8 children, all engendered by different men and each child carrying the last name of the respective fathers. One of her children was fathered by a French pirate surnamed "Sabatier." I am not sure how accurate the "legend" is, however we did run into a doctor in Miami who was caring for my grandfather on his deathbed. Her family was from the same area in Cuba as my grandfather, and they traced their roots to the same Columbian woman. I believe the Doctor's last name was Lamas, but again i am not 100% on this ( if you're interested i can find out her name for sure). i would be more than happy to share any further info i have, i am pretty sure that we are somehow related.

I spoke to my father Jose Sabatier, he seems to believe that Ramon was my great grandfather's brother. My great grandfather's name was Manuel Sabatier, he was married to Antonia Prieto (my great grandmother who i assume was also from Las Martinas). Anyway, that would make your grandfather Ramon my grandfather's (Pedro-everyone called him Honorio)uncle, and your father (Eladio) and my grandfather first cousins. I, like yourself, have lost contact with many of the Sabatier's in Miami. I actually was born and live in Jacksonville, FL. I can not recall meeting your parents, but who knows? I don't doubt that I may have met them at some point. In any case do you know if your grandfather had a brother named Manuel? I am not sure if my great grandfather had any other brothers or sisters, I need to ask my father. I also need to look at my grandfather's birth certificate, it has his grandparents' names on it that should help us get the names of at least one more generation. I would like to hear what you know. I will continue to post new information as it becomes available to me. So far it has been very much a pleasure to write to you and hopefully working together we can find out more about our family.

Hello Alain! Where in France are you from? Do you have any information on how our ancestors settled Cuba?
