I believe the Amado Mir you guys are talking about is my great grandfather, my Grandfather is Amado Mir Jr. I know my Great Grandfather died in some battle somewhere but I don't know much about him as my grandfather is kind of mysterious and close mouthed about the subject. If anyone knows anything about Amado Mir sr. I would greatly appreciate anything on him, you can reply to this post or if you want e-mail it to dmir123@yahoo.com

thanks!

I am also Mir from Cuba. My grandfather was Antonio Mir and I believe my Great Grandfather was named Belarmino. I am going to ask my Dad more about our family. I now that my Great Grandfather was the one that gave the land to build the railroad through the town in Cuba and that's why the town is now known as Mir, the town in in the Holguin province.

More Mirs from Holguin

Michael -

My wife is a dedicated researcher of her own family's history, and has a very complete picture going back to the 1600s, so she has taken on the task of getting mine together. While we are able to make good progress on the maternal side, very little is known on the paternal side because my father and his parents all passed away many years ago, and my aunt is somewhat...free-spirited...and difficult to extract information from.

What I do know is this -- thanks to my mother who knew a bit about my father's family:

My maternal grandmother's name was Maria Josepha Mir Rodriguez (Pepa we called her).
She was born c. 1910 and grew up on a ranch in Holguin.
She married Mario Oscar Gutierrez (maternal surname unknown) and they lived in Holguin.
Her children were Mario Hermes Gutierrez Mir (my father) and Nancy (my free-spirited aunt).
Her grandmother (my great great grandmother) was a French woman of noble birth (my mother says she always looked very haughty in pictures :-) ).

This French woman who married Luis Mir seems to jibe perfectly with the little my mother knows and seems an unlikely coincidence! I am hoping you may be able to shed additional light -- anything at all that may help us would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you know the names of Louis Mir's children? Any Mir boys marry someone named Rodriguez? That would help us work on the connection...

Just read your email and would like to discuss with you directly if possible or at least by my direct email address, which is mpalma@nyc.rr.com.

Our Mir family is from the town of Mir, just outside of Holguin. My great great grandfather donated the land for the train station that soon after became the town of Mir.

The farms or "fincas" known to me back then, were named Flores and Limonar (spelling?).

Do you think we are of the same family Mir?

Please let me know

Saludos,

Michael Palma Mir
