I just received news that my uncle Edilberto Mir, broke his hip. Edilberto (or Nene) was one of the last Mir who owned property, the farm, in Mir (the town). I may visit him this May. Thank you for the informacion in reference to the "Pupo" family. I just heard today, from a cousin, that the Pupos' name comes from the last name "Ponce de Leon". Your information just made it more correct.
My paternal grandfather was name "Raul Ruiz Pupo" my maternal grandmother was name "Adolfina Proenza Pupo" from Banes, Oriente, Cuba. They were distant cousins.

The last name of my mother is mir, her father was Jaime Mir.
Her grandfather Amado Mir who died in Battle Gibara in Oriente Cuba and his name is in a plaque in the regiment of leoncio vidal in Santa Clara Cuba ( wether it is still there or not i don't know.
